Ok so Im in the car driving to work this morning with my friend and OF COURSE I had to moisturize! I would'nt have had time when I get to work, so I always carry a mini spray bottle with my leave-in, and my cocoa-shea mix for sealing in case I gotta do it on the run:grin:!

Anyways as soon as I pull out my spray bottle and get to spritzin, my friend is lookin at me like ..... "What?, I gotta moisturize, its good to do it everyday". "Rigggghhhttt, just dont get any on me" she says in a sarcastic way. So Next I pull out my shea mix ( which looks like a creamy block btw)
Yall should've seen the SNARL she had on her face!!:lachen:

Im like "Its just my shea butter mix to seal my ends"
"IF you say so!!" she says , again with disdain in her voice

I thought it was kinda funny that somebody whos hair has never been passed N/L-S/L since Ive known her (5+ years) can scoff at someone elses healthy hair practices! Im not irritated. Im just antsy for the day when I bust out with my BAA or down-to-there pressed hair and give her that "look" :giggle: like "and what was it you where saying??" I know I know thats not nice......................:evillaugh:

So my question to all of you is..... What do you plan on doing to those that scoffed at you (if anything) when you reach you hair goals?? Or what HAVE you already done? Im not talkin about anything mean, just what would you SAY or the look you would give them when you KNOW they are ooglin your hair after blowin you off? :lachen:

I'm not going to do much talking. I'm going to wear it down and swing it around until my neck gets sore. :lachen:

I'm mid back now though my goal is wsl. after Grave's disease my had got so brittle and dry no matter what I did so I buzzed it off. I also started the meds the doc gave me. So there I was with a really short cut. 1/2 inch everywhere. I got laughs from relatives who are competitive and even my own dad said I was never going to grow my hair back. Well now it's much longer, like when I was a kid, and I don't say anything. My hair does it for me. My dad is now changing his tune. My mom reminded him one day of what he said and of course he says he never said that because I've ALWAYS been able to grow hair and it ALWAYS looks so good.

As for the haters be it relatives or frenemies, or just plain straight up haters, they can hate on as I move on. I don't have to say a darn word cause my hair is YELLING it all out for me.

In the words of "Shawty Lo".............. Laughin at you n@$$as like HA HA HA !:lachen:

LOL....I'm still mad at you for sealing in the car. I don't think it had anything to do with your healthy hair practices, I think your friend was just wondering why the heck you were being extra.

My family hasn't seen much of my hair since August, and they definitely haven't seen it straight. Graduation is gonna be a mother.

I'm not going to do much talking. I'm going to wear it down and swing it around until my neck gets soar. :lachen:

:lachen:....girl you are a mess. but it's the truth. After that they would be all on your tip trying to find out what you are doing.

@ Sunbubbles...keep on keepin' on with your healthy hair practices. Shoot, there was times when I would do the same thing. I carried my spray bottle EVERYWHERE my first year natural...as well as my moisturizers and stuff. You never know when you need a moisture boost throughout the day. Now that my hair has learned her lesson, I don't need to do that anymore, but some days I would spray it anyway. I'd rather have way too much moisture than not enough. And she'll probably be sweating you too.

@luckiestdestiny...that is such a wonderful story! It's even better that you were able to overcome something that others thought was impossible.

I remember when I chopped (I didn't tell anyone I was doing it...I just did it and then went to the barber so he could shape it up and even it up) and came home. My mom looked at me with disdain AND disgust on her face. Then when she realized all my hair was gone, she asked me, "what are you doing?" as if she was insinuating that I was a lesbian.

Fast forward to what is now me working on and enjoying my 4th year as a natural...and she is always saying how pretty, thick and nice my hair is. Several times throughout my journey she will mention that she is thinking about going natural. The latest time when I was home for the holidays she saw me doing my hair after I got out the shower and she looked like she was about to pass out when she saw how long it was when I stretched a piece out in the back and in the front. She said, 'your hair would probably be down your d#@m back if you pressed it!' Then she said she needed to go ahead and get started and if she had done it a long time ago she probably would have been where I was.

She keeps going back and forth though and has her own mental transitioning to do. Every now and then I ask her about her hair and she'll tell me what she's doing. She wants to grow it out and then keep it twisted all the time. She used to like when I twisted my hair and said it looked like thick logs (whenever I made them really big).

I'm guilty of that too...especially if I'm riding with someone else and we need to be somewhere yesterday. Either that or I was always trying to finish styling my hair for wherever we were going.

There was a time when I would wear nothing but braid outs and no-heat roller sets and I needed to be out the door on the way to work...I would just undo the braids or remove the rollers while I was in the car, then finish styling when I parked.

Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do!

LMBO!! My friends parents think Im a lesbian cause of my hair! :lachen:

and as far as the mom thing, I really wish my mom would go natural and leave those relaxers ALONE!! I think Im slowly but surely changing her over, she can be EXTREMLY traditional at times! Like when I first cut my hair, she said I looked like a cute girl from the 60's (especially with my HUGE jaw breaker eyeballs :lachen:) but she seems to think that any kind of BAA is unkempt!
but...........slowly but surely Im gonna pull her to the dark side!!

yeah my girl would always get mad when I busted out my oil concotion! I wouls rub a little in my hands and smooth it through the fro. lol She hated it because it smelled like peppermint. but guess what? She is natural now, and is asking about my oil! hmmpp..no oil for u!

Girl, I can't wait for my hair to grow long. When I first cut my hair my sister called a crazy *****.

Last week, I put in my coconut conditioner on wet hair and left it on (coconut curls and waves my hair); then I took my garnier curling gel and picked my hair out to its full length.

My sister was drooling over my TWA and noticed that it has grown alot.

I can't wait to see my hair at the end of the summer.

sunbubbles, i know what you mean! I want that for my mom too...but it has to be on her own accord. she is kinda lazy when it comes to hair though. like for example, she will say she wants "x" for her hair but is not willing to do "y" + "Z" to get it, if you feel me. She also told me when she saw me gelling my hair that same day that my hair practices took too much time. we as humans sometimes say things like that, but I always tell people that we make time for the things in our life that are important to us, or things that we feel are worth our time.

she also is very impatient especially when it comes to hair and getting it done, so that's another thing. But I still don't get it because there was a point in her life when she was natural and I remember as a kid looking through some of her photo albums and her afro was so big and pretty!

she had a mishap with a relaxer last winter and i would like to say she is recovering from it but i'm not too sure.

@ natural_one...you being stingy with your oil is hilarious!

@ Changed...your hair is gonna be even more off the chain at the end of the summer. it sounds like those products are doing wonders for you!

I cannot wait for that moment. Since I became a DIY Jan '09 (after a major Salon induced setback) I always hear from women that knew what happened to my hair: "you are doing too much stuff to your hair" So, I cannot wait to swang & do my thang!:lachen:

I heard a few snickers when folks found out I was using "horsey stuff" in my hair (Mega Tek). I'm not gonna have the last laugh with that though. MT broke my hair off something fierce! So I guess I'll laugh once BT, BeeMine and protective styling help me get to BSL.

hmmmm....i'm not even APL but i'm giggling a little bit already! My sis found out awhile ago that I didn't comb or brush often anymore and told everyone. They all laughed so hard at that and my other portions of my regimen.

I wore my hair out for my birthday a few weeks ago and my fam kept asking if it was a weave and staring at me at dinner. I reminded them of their laughter at my regimen and swung my hair all night!

Can't wait for APL...that giggle is gonna be full-blown belly laughter!!!!

I went a year after my BC wearing my hair in wraps and fake ponys (while baggying the ends). Many people started questioning if I had any hair, they thought I was bald. When I finally busted out the fro, that shut them up.

sxytia07....is the laugh gonna be something similar to this:

mwwhahhahhhahhahhhhahhhhhhh...

:lachen::lachen::lachen:

and redRiot...get it girl!!!! That's EXACTLY what i've been doing since december/january. I always used to try to tie my hair up for bed but i'm going hard with protective styling now (wet bunning and baggied hair underneath headwraps, phony ponytails)...it's good to shut people up!

nobody really asks me what i'm doing anymore though. but i do remember when i made it known that i stopped washing my hair with shampoo some people turned their noses up at me. as if i had the plague and was unsanitary or something.

I sooooo wanted to say... 'LISTEN people!! I didn't say I don't wash my hair at all anymore, just that I don't use shampoo to wash it anymore.' People can be so ignorant when they get ready.

Oh and girl CONGRATULATIONS ON GETTING INTO LAW SCHOOL!!!!

Oh, it's gonna sound EXACTLY like that!!!!! I plan to hold my belly, throw my head back and letta rip!

My mom used to shake her head and tell me I was being to complicated or crazy, and remind me that I didn't have "white" hair whenever I tried to tell her anything.

Then she saw my fotki. :look:
I've cut my hair to above my shoulders twice in the past two years and I've beat her length both times already.

Now she calls me for advice and writes down recipes I give her for adding oils and baking soda to shampoo and conditioner. :lachen:

OP! Love this post! Girl, I am hiding my hair in buns for the rest of the year. I don't want anyone even seeing my hair until I hit APL. Then, I will hide it again until I hit BSL. I have the scene all set up in my head:

"Its's Sunday morning (everyone in my family is up in church on Sundays), I walk in with my hair blow dried and flat ironed to showcase every single inch of length. I swing my hair to my left, then swang it to the right. Then I magically float to the front of the church, my hair gliding ever so lightly behind me. Jaws drop. My cousins are staring. One of my aunts comes over to me and says, I LOVE your weave! I correct her- NO! This is all mine....What's your secret, she asks. I just chuckle and say..."You will never know!!!!!!!"

Extra, I know, but I deserve my fantasy!

I know that's right!!!!

and I hate the "white" hair comments or suggestions. Well they can hate all of us and our "white" hair forever...we will still do us.

Well, she has now recently announced that this is happening because I have a "good grade" of hair. :perplexed

Hmmm. I find that very interesting considering I'm 24 yrs old and this is the first I've heard of it.

Ha Ha all of your stories are funny! I recently just told my mom and sisters I'm going natural and they all looked at me like i lost my mind.Started calling me afro-centric and the whole nine. I rocked my first twist-out easter sunday and they loved it!!! I then showed them my soft and curly new growth and they were practically drooling over it. I can't wait till all my hair is natural so I can really show off :-)

Ya'll are cracking me up with these stories!!! Keep 'em coming, even if for pure entertainment!!! I'm not mad at ya'll for shakin' 'em off!!! LOL!

:perplexed:spinning: Whatever to bolded! I'm getting that now. My hair grows because I've always had a "good grade" or "good hair" or I just have "growing hair" That's not what they were saying before...
I think people start saying that to make themselves feel better about the fact that their hair isn't healthy. Like it's not their fault they don't have growing hair. It's something they can't change. Otherwise they'd have to acknowledge that fact that we're doing something right with our hair, and thus they would have to re examine their hair practices.

I do think there is short healthy hair, but I'm talking about those with raggedy hair that were laughing years ago, and are now making excuses for why my hair looks the way it does, instead of just realizing I'm taking care of it.
