Typically, I have not allowed my hair to dry thoroughly whether I am flat ironing or rollersetting, using heat to dry or air drying. I have a dense, porus head of hair and not a lot of patience for drying it :ohwell: But i have learn it has to be dry fot the set to hold.

A bad rollerset for me is caused by trying out a new product, or a new combo of products...I have fine hair, and too much of anything will completely ruin it as well! I just bun it for the rest of the week

When I get a bad flat ironing job its mostly because I made my sections too big

Did a roller set last night. I think my ends are dry, a little split. I am 2 weeks post relaxer and my roots were poofy, my hair was stiff and dry. The products I used was NTM leave in and Nairobi wrapp and shine.
So I think what I did wrong was A) roller set when damp, not soaking wet. B). Put too much Nairobi in. C) Sat under the dryer for about 40 mins on high heat- my ends never get dry so I let it air dry and went to sleep- I dont think it dried completely- My hair takes FOREVER TO AIRDRY D) Put too much hair on the roller.
The consistent problems I have are losing ym rollers everytime I rollerset. Maybe Im not so organzied in this area, put I think my problem with D is that I cannot find my rollers when I need them so I clump more than I need to together.

With B I notice my stylist puts ALOT of setting lotion in and my hair comes out silky and bouncy. But she does have that high powered hooded dryer, and I dont think she puts leave in in.

With A I think I just get in a hurry.

When I have a lot of time I love to air dry with rollers. But its usually REALLY uncomfortable to sleep in....so I wind up yanking it off in my sleep. Im not sure if high heat is good for my ends.

I have fine hair that splits so easily (I mean I wear my hair down for two days and it splits. Gah) . Its seemingly impossible to get past APL. I DC with ORS Replenishing. Im not sure if that has a lot of cones in it. Ive never considered the cone thing before.

Next time I rollerset I'll use less water, a teeny bit of leave in and same amount of nairobi, buy some more rollers and use smaller sections and pull tighter, and dry completely.

Yeah just to echo others, a bad rollerset for me would be using products that don't work for me or don't compliment each other. I've got this down to quite a fine art now as I don't generally change the products I use for my rollerset. I know exactly how much product to use and I use them in a particular order too. This is works well for me and I get silky bouncy hair every time - it did take quite a lot of trial and error to get good results all the time though!

ETA: I would know that the rollerset has not worked because my hair would be either dry or frizzy. One of the biggest culprits of a poor rollerset is not allowing the whole head to dry sufficiently. When this happened to me previously I would just put my hair up in a bun.

For those that say too much product, when you use little product during the process to achieve bouncy light results do you moisturise/oil during the week at all and does your hair get weighed down? ETA: Sorry for the thread steal op :o

My problem is always too much product..hence the question lol

LOL, I'm still trying to figure out what went wrong with my flat iron. I don't think I used enough product.....
