Which pattern of relaxing should I follow for 4/25 wedding?

I'm soo undecided. I'm getting married 4/25 so I'm planning my touchups. I'm not a true stretcher since my 4b kinky hair won't allow it w/o major breakage.

So...I'm trying to decide whether or not to relax this weekend at 7 weeks, then again the next 7 weeks, then at 6 weeks for the wedding.

I was also thinking of doing it next weekend (8wks) and then waiting another 8wks and then style my 4wk old hair by wedding day (5 weeks when I get back from the honeymoon).

Three relaxers by 4/25 sounds like a lot, but I want my hair straight for the wedding and honeymoon although I know 4 weeks is not THAT bad...

Think it's too much?

Two 10-week relaxers would be perfect! But that wasn't one of the options was it????:look:

ETA: Okay, you changed it and added a third option. The third option is definitely the best!

I picked the first option because I know I would want the freshest possible relaxer for my wedding day! Congratulations too!

I picked option 3, imho your hair would have more volume after 2 wks and hold the style better without too much product usage.

ITA!

For me, since I don't texlax, newly relaxed hair doesn't keep the style as well. Sure it's shiny etc, but I prefer the look after 1 or 2 washes. HTH

And Congrats!

I'm torn because yes, I'd like the freshest relaxer, however after the first day, I don't like my hair since it tends to get better the next week after washing...

So I think I'm going to try the two back to back 9 weeks and then just be 2 weeks on that day.

Thanks ladies!:spinning:

Congratulations on your wedding!!! You might also consider what type of outside fun activities (if you GET outside) you're going to enjoy, because your hair may be an issue. I'd do the 9, 9 otherwise.

I voted 9, 9, but I would really try more like 10, 10, or 10,9, if you did not want just-relaxed hair or did not want to spend time getting a relaxer on the wedding weekend.

I chose the last option.

Personally, I like my hair best when it's a week or two post-relaxer because it is has more fullness/body and my roots are still straight.

I am so hesitant to post in your thread because this topic is so sensitive.

With my meticulous thoughts if you have never had a hair care regimen now is the time develop one.

I know you said you get breakage from stretching so I'm thinking your hair is dry/porous and lacks elasticity.

I was thinking maybe you can
1. co wash for moisture retention
2. protein for strength
3. wear braids or braid outs or wear pretty silk scarves to try and stretch

***Try and develop a regimen that will allow you to exclude one of the relaxer. I know you want straight hair but what about fullness and body??

Are you wearing your hair down or up??

If down I would get a weave I only say that because I see women messing their hair up with relaxer for a special occasion
If up I would focus on my edges and wear a pretty bun.

Just be careful!! Congrats and post pics of your BIG DAY.

I agree the topic is sensitive since sooo many stretch. But I'm glad I got so many responses. So far 54 think I need to wait, lol, so I just washed my hair today, cleaned my nape area up with a lining, and put it up.

However my hair is extremely dry but it seems that goes along with the 4b hair types. Cowashing won't work...I'm Chicago and it was like 4 degrees yesterday. I do a daily spritz of distilled water and seal with an oil and that helps. Braidouts seem to make my hair dryer due to the air drying so for me its a summer time style.
And weaves are a :nono:. My fiance HATES them, although to last the extra weeks I do on occasion wear my beloved Instant Weaves since I can remove them once I get home.

Thanks for all the congrats!

I agree with stretching for two ten week periods.

Have you tried glycerin and water then sealing? My new growth was dry as a bone (cold, dry weather does a number on my hair and skin) but this has helped me immensely!:yep:

:stop:No way Missy, I'm from Chicago too. You need to care for your hair right. Co-wash your hair at night so you won't be wet head in the morning.

I think you should definitely do the last option. You have to take care of your hair so it will be most beautiful on your wedding day. Do you use any cholesteral conditioner? When I dc for moisture I use a mix of conditioner for super soft hair. I am a 4b (kinky, afro hair) too. My hair is very soft after I dc with my moisture and cholestoral. This will help you stretch. I am in the mild of a mini stretch right now. I am relaxing after 12 weeks right before I come home from deployment. I want my hair looking right when I see the dh after 6 months away. Also, I don't know what products you are using but coconut oil is amazing. It really makes the hair soft be careful not to use to much but I am in love with it.

No I've been using the coconut oil or castor oil after distlled water to see. I'll have to try this. Do you have a ratio you use?

Thanks!

Ok you got me. :lachen:
So your hair dries by morning after cowashing at night??? How??

The coconut oil is also nice, but it seems its not heavy enough in the winter. But that's for sealing. I did use it last year and I remember it softened my new growth like nothing else.

I got married recently and self relaxed my hair 2 days before the big day. I could not imagine having to fight with any type of re-growth, not even 2 weeks worth, it was fresh, slick hair or nothing at all. I stretch 12 weeks anyway and mine turned out perfectly, but i would go with the first option, with freshly relaxed hair for the big day...

The reason why I can stretch so long is because I hardly manipulate it, it only gets combed on wash days which is once every 3 weeks and thus i dont have to fight through the different textures.

Good luck

I voted 9,9,2

I think a relaxer always looks best after a week or two when the hair has a little more body.
