I think it depends on what other stuff you use in your hair. Some people clarify once a month or so, others more often if they have build-up from their other products. I think it's wise to have a clarifier that is made to be used daily or is made to be gentle, so if you ever have any emergencies where you need to clarify pronto (i.e. you tried something that gummed up your hair or something) you don't have to worry about the shampoo stripping your hair or being too harsh to use whenever you need it.
I used to clarify my hair once a month. Now I clarify my hair when needed. I enjoy using cone based products. Therefore, I have to stay on top of clarifying.
I'm a cone girl too and I agree with Allandra. My hair will usually let me know when it's time. When it's just kind of blah and won't work right--that's usually the indication.

Also... after taking any antibiotics. The antibiotics come out in your hair and can cause breakage. I think a lot of people don't know that.
I like to clarify my hair every time i wash it because i like that free flowing look. I use the elucence clarifying shampoo which is apparently very gentle. My hair is always left shiny and swinging.
