wet or dry hair? What were your results? I just broke down and bought some cassia and wanted to know what is the best way to apply it.

Thanks Ladies

I've done it both ways, didn't notice a difference. I prefer to do it dry - easier to handle.

I used it on dry hair. It made my hair fuller, but be prepared to do some MAJOR deep conditioning afterwards.

Since deep conditioning is encouraged, is it better to henna on dry (dirty) hair and then follow through with my regular cleansing and (deep) conditioning routine? Or should the henna be done on clean hair?

I was wondering that also. Do I have to wash and clean before I apply?

I do it on clean, wet, and clarified hair.

I thought it put a protective coating on the hair. :look:

I want to do it on clean wet hair.

After I rinse it, I do a moisturizing deep condition.

This is what I was going to do. I want to do an ACV rinse then apply my henna on towel dried hair so it is only slightly damp.

This makes sense to me, almost like a post-shampoo application based on its purpose....

I did it on wet clarified hair. If you decide to do it, make your henna mix thicker. The water in your hair will dilute it a bit.

SO TRUE! It gets more runny.

I personally don't use much water at all.

I mix:

2 oz. cassia and 1 oz. Henna
OR
1 oz cassia and 1 box Hennalucent

with:
1 cup plain nonfat yogurt
1 tbsp EVOO
1 tsp pectin (not sure of this makes a difference yet)
1 oz. water (MAYBE 1 more ounce if it is just too thick)

It is very thick, but on my wet hair it ends up being more runny, but not too runny. Just good enough to rinse well.

I've done it twice on dry clean hair. The first time my hair was really soft and dark brown the second time my hair was extra hard and very close to black. (Indigo mix) I'm going to lay off for a while.

I've also only done it on dry, not so clean hair. :look: And followed up with a deep cond. I try not to handle my hair much when wet so Im not really interested in trying it wet.
:ohwell:

I've done it both ways. The color seemed to 'take' better on clarified hair...I always do a 50/50 henna/indigo mix. I've used henna about 6 times & I usually do it on dry hair; this last time I did on wet hair after clarifying and my hair turned out much darker- almost black! (it still has that red tint in sunlight though) :ohwell:
I think I will lay off the indigo for a while.

I agree with you ThursdayGirl, That is why I like to make mine thick like pudding with the yogurt and pectin. It is very easy to apply to wet/damp hair and the mixture does not run.

Softresses

I have put henna on my hair wet and dry. I prefer dry, partly because I don't feel like wetting my hair before I apply it and partly because it drips when I put it on wet. I always make my henna into a pretty thick paste. But it started to drip a couple of hours after application anyway and that drove me crazy. I saw no difference in the outcome, though. But I believe I've reached the saturation point as far as color is concerned.

This is such a good thread. I think I'm going to start doing my henna treatments on wet hair after washing. For 1, my preliminary detangling session with cheapie conditioner on dry hair is essential for me on wash days. Also I am curious to see the results on using henna on clean hair and it seems like it would be easier to rinse out this way too... :scratchch
