Every time I come away with a strand of hair on my hand, I'm thinking "well no wonder I'm not seeing any growth, my hair keeps coming out." And every time I get more and more convinced that after I stretch and keep cowashing and moisturizing and not using heat and doing all this no manipulation walking around in a ponytail all damn day, by the time I'm ready to straighten my hair again it's STILL going to be the same length. And then I cry and eat a half gallon of ice cream

At what point does the hair that comes out become too much for the hair that stays on? How much breakage or shedding do you allow to occur before you get concerned? How much is enough to affect progress?

Means you need to detangle more - get the shed hairs out faster, so that they don't get a chance to knot up with the rest of your hair. I assume you wear your hair 'unbound' most of the time?
So, I'd say pay attention to it right away as soon as you notice (breakage) and try to determine what your hair needs (moisture vs protein). I still haven't penpointed what happened to mine other than 'needing' a relaxer, but I suspect a heavier protein was probably needed.
