Gosh as my hair gets longer it gets tangled. whats that about. Anyone experience that. What the heck is this all about. I was twisting it out but I noticed I was getting knots all the time so I stopped doing that and just wear wash and go with a hand band. I have to its getting longer and my back is rubbing on my clothes so I have to put it up. I notice that at the end of the day when I get home I have all these knows at the hairs I never really paid attention to at the very back of my head. Can't untangle them and have to pull them out. First I had raggedy ends now this. I am so glad its growing and all that but is this apart of the growth. I guess I should say tight curls. Never had that before I don't know what to do about them. Should I what???????? put oil on the ends each night. I don't do nothing but bush it up and put a band around it and go each day. I comb it once in a while you think thats it. this is so new. I never had this even as a child. Or perhaps I just can't remember

this happens to me. some of my individual hair strands have knots at the very end of them. i just don't do anything about them because its probably like 5 strands out of 5 million for me.

i wish i had suggestions for you (and myself for that matter). but if anyone else knows what to do please help. :)

Hey Trudy,:) I'm going through the same thing and my hair is 4b so mine is kind of rough. I've been trimming my hair every two months until all my hair is my nice new growth.:p Are you taking vitamins like biotin and msm because you will have a nice new growth coming in and that hair don't have any balls and stuff on it. Since I found this website I really didn't know how important it was to take vitamins. Vitamins help a whole lot with your new growth.

I deal with knots, too. I got them like crazy when I wore my hair natural. Now that I straighten weekly, I still get them but they aren't as bad as before.

I have tiny knots on single hairs sometimes especially when my hair is in a curly state, the hair strand
knots itself,,, man do i hate those, i can rip them off,, its best to while your hair is wet use some oil ( i use jojoba) on the ends. You can air dry in braids and seal off and soften the ends with jojoba... HTH

they're called "pixie knots" and its a very common thing in curly hair. i remember when i first discovered mine...i was like  but, then i asked someone on the board and they explained them to me. its best to cut them right above the knot with sharp hair-only scissors. they're formed when your curly hair (or tangled or whatever) ties one single strand into itself. they're practically impossible to untie. and most people notice that pixie knots breed other pixie knots...the knot causes other hairs to get caught within its knot etc. they're no big deal. most curlies get them. i've noticed that since i'm detangling only in the shower with wet, conditioner loaded hair and usually wearing my hair either down & curly or in a damp bun...i don't get them as much. oh! and keep your hair very well conditioned - it keeps them away too.

Oh dear! I'll have to start cutting mine off then. I usually just leave them.

This is true. I've also read that pixie knots can create a split or weakening of the hair where the knot is because the hair that's knotted is constantly rubbing together. That really scared me. I've looked at mine and I can actually see where that's happened. I wish I remember where I read this, they had a picture of it and everything. Sad thing is, you really can't prevent these knots:mad: .

Great Explanation! I was wondering what they were. I get them in the very back of my head and around the edges. I always end up pulling them out and sometimes its like 3 or 4 strands knotted together. I only really notice them when my hair is dry so I try to keep it moisturized.

Oh I am so glad you guys posted this b/c I was being plagued by them and didn't know what to do about them! Thank you...

Wow. I didn't know that thank you everyone for your replies. I could not find my leave in conditioner that I love by Fructis. So I have tons of leave in in the bathroom. I been using that and I have just now notices the balls curly little balls that I hate and I can't stop picking it it. Plus it hurts seem like they bloom were its sensitve ie. back of your neck. I went to Walmart to buy somemore and go to put the bag in the trunk and there is my darn conditioner right there. Well Good I now have three bottles they were on sale. I use Garnier Fructis Leave in Curl and Shine. I don't know how to put pictures on here otherwise I would show you what the look like. WE use to call them peas. No offense but we did but I get them all over mostly in the back portion of my hair.

i have them too and it's driving me crazy even as i load my hair with conditioner i still get them and when i detangle i can see almost whole curls on the shower floor i am thinking about getting a weave so i won't have to bother with my hair also could they be from wearing puffs and twist outs

I get a lot of knots around this time of year. I think it's because it's windy outside. I straighten my hair a little and pull it back. I get a lot less knots that way.

conditioner wont help them. just cut them off. when i relaxed my hair, i had so many i was just yanking them out, so frustrating

Okay what I did was remove all the balls I could find and then washed and shampooed my hair and deep condition it and then I put a lot, A LOT of my leave-in condioner back in. It worked no balls- none. None in the back and last night I took a shower and the back of my hair was wet I wrapped it up in my bonnet and I got up this morning - no balls none. I love that leave in conditioner. I also put in the humectant on my way out the door just a dab that was at 7:30 am this morning its 9:05 PM now and no balls. I am sticking with my leave-in.

I've noticed that, too. I've tried cutting them when I see them (because they cause tangling and other knots), but now I'm wondering if it is a lost cause.

Do you need a trim maybe? You don't want them to keep forming on your hair... A trim is better than the knots keep taking other strands with it... I had them too... I just did a dusting and I will see if they come back, if they do, I will keep my hair bagged and bunned for a while:perplexed...
Which I am going to start anyway, because the weather is changing and I don't want jackets and sweaters killing my ends/hair...
