I recently saw a video on YT (by a LHCF'er) that used a black rinse on her daughter's hair that would have some extensions sewed in afterwards. It was a really inky black, by Redken Shades EQ.

I love Redken Shades EQ because demi permanent color that creates color that is super rich and glossy, not to mention, leaves the hair soft and conditioned. The color doesn't run, is EXTREMELY pigmented and fades naturally without any harsh demarcation AND only does it fade after 6 weeks or so. SO beautiful. I love their colors; their range is exceptional!

ooh this sounds good...are demi's harsher in the hair? Can u do a demi right after a relaxer?

I seen someone post pics on here after using this one and her hair was AWESOME it was super black and shiny. I would give this one a try in the future if I wanted to go black again.

I wouldnt say it gets super shiny, but it's definitely not dull.

I believe they have two shades of black, I cant remember I've used both with great results. Sorry I couldnt be more helpful on that part.

I have serious resistant gray hair. My first choice is Bigen oriental black. It is by far the best black on the market. It lasts forever and I only have to do my roots as they grow out. But it dries my hair out and usually takes two-three conditioner washes before it feels moisturized. Second choice would be Loreal color gems. It is a demi-permanent. Very long-lasting, but it has a blue base, which can sometimes give my gray a bluish cast. So I will mix one box jet black and one box dark brown. My gray hair is then a slight dark brown.
Neither one of these choices will give you those dreaded color drips.

I use Adore(Velvet Black),it's not drying and very dark. I apply it after a touch up and reapply to the roots in 3 weeks.

Sebastians Colourshines in Coffee Bean (really a very dark brown, nearly black), and Clairol Beautiful Collection in Jet Black.

...But I have permanent hair color: Dark & Lovely Midnight Blue (blue black) Permanent. The only time I use rinses is if I let my roots grow out and don't wanna touch up w. permanent color yet. Or, if my permanent color has faded too much, then I sometimes wash a rinse over it to "refresh" the brightness and intensity. I always wear jet black or a darker version like blue black. (Yes, this color really has a blue tint in certain light, though totally black). Lurve it!

I use Clairol Natural Instincts demi-perm about every 5 weeks and then every 3-4 months I use henna mixed with indigo to lay on permanent color. This seems to work well so far. I LOVE the Natural Instincts conditioner that comes with package... I use that as a leave-in almost daily

Try Adore Black Velvet in the white bottle. It easily rinses clear and leaves my hair feeling soft with a shiny black tint that doesn’t make me looked like Morticia Addams.

I formerly used Kiss Express Black, Jet Black and Rosewood Brown, but got tired of the hard staining and rough, protein-like feeling it left behind; plus, they added Alcohol and Benzyl Alcohol as the second and third ingredients, and pushed the good stuff down to the bottom.

Black can still be damaging. In my opinion Bigen is harsh. I would go with the Adore. I love the results I get from that product. Shiny hair and great coverage.

I haven't used a rinse in a while so what's the best way to apply it? On clean, shampooed hair then sit under the dryer with the color for 30 minutes?

I use the Adore brand. I believe it's called Jet Black or Velvet Black. I will check to make sure when I get home.

Shampoo twice
Towel dry
Apply rinse and cover with plastic cap
Sit under dryer for 15-20 minutes (follow instructions on the package)
Rinse with cool water
Shampoo Once

I use Shea Moisture in Jet Black and have had no issues with damage or drying. At least for my hair going darker has never caused damage issues. I last colored my hair in June and will be retouching front grays along the hairline in 2 weeks using SM again.

I usually use natural instincts but it is a demi permanent hair color. I use 3 times a year but I am looking for something to use in between touch ups. I bought a bottle of the Adore in velvet black.
