What's up with stars? Are they based on subsrciptions now?

I just started a thread, and it has 5 stars now. It's only been viewed once. I didn't rate it, but I did subscribe. What's the deal?

No, they arent based on subscription. Someone has to rate your thread in order for it to get any stars.
