I just wanted to make sure I'm not the only one. I come out much better combing my hair after it's airdried than when it's wet. I get a LOT of breakage when my hair is wet, even when I'm REALLY gentle! I just can't do it! I also discovered that my hair LOVES CONES! If I don't use them, my hair gets really hard and won't hold moisture very well. No cones also makes the strands of my hair really rough. What's unique about your hair?

I am the same as you! I get more breakage when combing wet hair, but airdried my hair is soft and easy to comb. My hair also LOVES cones.

-Also, I love using grease a couple times a week. I know many people are against that, but I love it.

-I also use a little oil when I flat iron. I use a little kemi Oyl on my hair along with my serum before I flat iron. Works like a charm (although many are against that, as well). It really helps my hair stay moisturized for days at a time.

-Also, I don't use water based moisturizers daily. My hair does not need it and acts up when I try it.

Our hair sounds pretty similar! I think I'm going to try that Kemi Oil and flat-iron some time after I finish my no-heat challenge!:)

For me, leaving a conditioner on longer than the recommended time has ALWAYS ended in a disaster. If it says 10 minutes on the bottle w/ heat, that is exactly what I do, down to the minute. I get much better results that way.

I also just comb my hair down after washing, then dry under a hood dryer, no rollers and no wrap. Air drying w/o the hood dryer is asking for it too :) .

I CANNOT AIR DRY!!!! My hair just comes out hard, Hard, HARD!!!!! Did I say my hair comes out hard?

Anyway, I rollerset and dry under my Gold & Hot bonnet dryer 15 minutes on medium and 15 minutes on low to take off most of the moisture, then it dries the rest of the way on its own overnight. I have to comb out my hair and dry it immediately after I wash. Even if I come out my hair after the wash then air dry, it's still hard and needs detangling again after it's dry, and I lose so much hair during that comb out. I tried it, but I had to give it up and go back to my rollersets.

Also, airdrying gave me the worst head cold I ever had. I can't sleep with my hair wet.

I love it!

After I shampoo and condition, I apply leave-in and serum and let my hair airydry, combing it several times during the drying process. After it is dry, I apply a little Kemi oil and flatiron. Sometimes, I use just a little more serum because I miss some spots when applying in on my wet hair.

It seems to lock in moisture better than when I don't use the Kemi Oyl.

I can't use oils the way other people here do. If I oil my hair it just gets hard, dry and crunchy. The only oil I've had any success with is coconut oil, but even that results in crunch. It just doesn't happen as fast. Oil does not seal in moisture for me, but rather seems to keep it out or remove it!

I also have to watch it with the protein. I stay away from heavy protein treatments and I generally use low protein or protein free products on my hair. I have gone weeks at a time with NO protein and NO oils at all and my hair really loves it. I'm always second guessing these results because it's been so ingrained in me that hair needs protein once in a while. If I get too worried about it, I will use Aubrey GPB and keep it in for a short time once in a while.

I think I have the only hair here that does not like Qhemet products (probably too much oil). My hair also hates grease. I can use natural butters, though, in moderation.

Going 2 or 3 weeks without washing or cowashing just wouldn't work for me. I used to do that when I wasn't caring for my hair properly and I wondered why I had an itchy scalp and dandruff! In addition to that, if I went that long, my hair would be severely knotted up. I remember back in the day when I washed and detangled infrequently, I used to end up with this rat's nest that made my arms ache when I tried to comb it. I shiver just thinking of it now. It's best for me to detangle and cowash more regularly.

I'm sure there is other stuff, but that's all I can think of now. :)

My regimen is simple and has been the same for the longest. I've done some experimenting, but regimen hasn't changed since last year when I set it. I notice that some people change regimens with the season to accomodate the weather etc, but I don't do much of that. My products are the same year 'round although the rotation may slightly change. Much of that probably has to do with living in California and not having drastic season shifts.

I apply conditioner with a coloring brush. I mix it in a bowl, add oil, honey, etc, then I apply it the way relaxer is applied except I saturate all of my hair. I use more product doing this, but my hair LOVES it and thrives when I'm thorough with the application.

I don't moisturize every day. I'll spritz my moisture mix in when I feel it's necessary. On curly hair, that's every day or every other day, but on straight hair, it's ever 2-3 days. I think my method of conditioning keeps my hair from needing so much extra stuff during the week.

I use way too much product. I use about 12 ounces of moisturizer per week. I think my hair does well when it is greasy & full of product. When it is down (which is never) I don't use much product.

I recently started detangling at every wash and co-wash. Before I only detangled when I poo'd, but that hasn't been working for me lately. People say don't detangle wet hair (I do it under the shower) and they say don't do it often. I'm breaking both rules and my hair seems to love it. I don't lose more than 5-6 strands of hair went at each detangling.

The fact that my hair don't get damage from micro braids.
I have people stop me in the street to ask why my hair line hasn't fallen out.

I don't moisturize daily (or weekly even). I wash when the spirit catches me and I comb my hair dry, wet, whatever. I also blowdry. Its too damn cold to be rocking wet hair. Also, I haven't co-washed in forever. It left too much buildup and tangled my hair from it being wet all the time. I think it kind of made my hair weak as well.

I find it funny that your hair is so much like mine. It seems to be about the same texture, so I guess that makes since.

Only difference being I need protein from time to time because I color my hair a lot.

Yes, me too! I thought I was the only one like that. Straight oils do nothing for my hair, wet or dry. My hair loves butters for moisturizing and conditioning.
