What's the skinny on Kemi Oyl??

Kemi Oyl! Just the name of it brings back childhood memories. Growing up in DC, all the "older" girls used it. (Older meaning high school...I was a youngin'...LOL)

i just bought some just cause im a pj and it smells nice i plan on either mixing it with my grease and sealing with it or using it as a prepoo

LOL! I was just thinking about this the other day. Yes, Kemi Oyl was huge back in the 90s among us hood chicks. LAst year I saw it in the BSS, but I couldn't bring myself to purchase it, I can't really explain why, I guess the smell would remind me too much of being a 15 year old and I am now 32, so I would rather use an oil that would remind me of this stage of my life...I know that doesn't make any sense. LOL!

^^
OMG - This!

Kemi was my go-to, "luxury" hair care product back in the '90s. I remember seeing an ad in Essence magazine and was hooked. Since my hair was long and pressed with highlights, it helped keep my hair straight without it being too greasy like the classic pomades did. A little went a long way so the small bottle didn't bother me. I wasn't ingredient conscious so I don't remember what was in it. Something told me it has sesame oil, but I can't be too sure - it was too long ago!

I remember Kemi Oyl from when I was a little girl and I LOVED that stuff! My hair was always so soft and smelled so good when my mom/aunts used it on my hair. My mommy did some cleaning and found a bottle. I swiped it from on top the extra fridge in our garage and put it in my room so my mom wouldn't get to it (her perfect curls don't need it GRRR.) I want to use it so badly; though the lack of specific ingredients is a turn off, what I really worry about is what if my hair still loves it and I can't find anymore?
The bottle I swiped was the large spray bottle like so

But all the ones that I can find for sale on the internet is the actual oil like substance that looks like so

And in searching the internet it appears that the products are discontinued. But I have seen some people say they have been able to get stuff from BSS in their neighborhood. I think I'm going to look at a couple BSS around my way to see if I can find any before I start spraying.

I just used this today for my pre-poo along with other oils my hair was soft. I found mine at my local BSS. I will continue to use this and incorporate it into my regimen.

My Mom used this back in the day. I love the way it smells as well. But if the company refuses to share what's in it, I will not buy it nor would I recommend using it. That's just shady.

One of my favorites. I use it every day after I moisturize and use it to seal after every wash. It adds a lot of moisture to my hair.
