What's the longest length of time you've ever bunned?

Were there any ill effects? I'd like to bun through the fall/winter but I'm worried that my hair will begin to break in middle from the ouchless band. I'm sure not to tie it too tight and I moisturize extra good, but I'm still a bit leary about bunning everyday for long periods of time.

Any advice, recs or ideas? TIA

I bun more than 85% of the time. Just be conscious of how moisturized your hair is and how tight your bun is.

Same here. This past year i wore a bun nearly every day. I kept my hair moisturized and washed once a week. It wasnt a tight bun, and the ends were tucked safely under. No ill effects at all.

I've been wearing buns and French twists at least 90% of the time for the past year. I haven't noticed any breakage or damage and my hair is much healthier for it.

I don't use bands or scrunchies, I just twist the length of my hair into one big twist and then I coil it around itself on my head or sometimes low at the nape of my neck, make sure the ends are tucked in carefully, and then use hair pins to secure it. Sometimes I use a big claw clip if I'm in a rush. I'd love to try hair sticks but I haven't gotten around to buying any yet.

Buns and French twists are excellent, low maintenance styles.

Well, I bun with a doughnut made out of a tube sock and a nylon knee-hi. I have kitchen issues on my left side at the nape so, I position the bun to cover that part. Now, the right side of my nape is starting to thin out and get that beedeebee effect. I think I'm wearing it too tight (I put my hair in a ponytail and then bun it) because I'm starting to lose hair on the right side.

I almost feel like I can't help but to wear my ponytail tight because if I don't, you can see all my "family" back there. I've tried everything to smooth down my nape. I moisturize morning and night but to no avail.

Bee,
You could be pulling your hair too tight into the bun, that can cause breakage and problems. Have you tried alternating the bun's position? Try combing your hair all up high for a ballet type bun for a few days and then maybe switch and go for a very low bun on your nape. Don't pull your hair too tight, that could definitely be the cause of thinning on one side.

With the cooler temps and windy days I am finding new found love for buns and I'm in the process of learning how to master the French twist too. It's still a little mysterious too me... I can't wait to perfect it and make it my own. :)

I bunned for a year. I would recommend soaking your ouchless bands in olive oil before putting them in your hair. Keeps them from pulling your hair. I also recommend changing the placement of your buns. I also make really pretty buns by making a ponytail and tucking the ends under.

I have my hair in a bun pretty much every day for over a year now. I use satin scrunchies most of the time, but also claw clips, beak clips and occasionally hair sticks. I am always careful about making the buns loosely. I haven't had any problems.

ITA. :yep:
During my first LHCF year, I wore braided buns low in the badk and French Twists all of the time. I made sure my buns were not tied with anything. In fact, I used very little tension on my hair, just braiding it in the back or side, tucking it under secured with Good Hair Days pins. I would "tie" a silk ribbon around the already made bun (for decoration but not really tied) or place a silk or satin scrunchie around it, also for decoration, or use hair sticks and flowers. I still wear these styles, along with other options.

Those Good Hair Days pins are great. I haven't worn buns for a long period of time yet, but this winter I plan on doing buns and French twists to protect my hair from the cold, sweaters, jackets etc. I got some hair sticks and I like how they dress up a French twist. Keeping buns and twists loose and securing them with pins while avoiding tension on the hair seems to be key.

I love buns. I was wearing them everyday for the first couple months of school, but my hair was starting to break in the middle of my head, where I'd wear the bun. Now, I've switched to rollersets, but I'm still trying to figure out a solution to the breakage from the bun so that I can go back to wearing them 75% of the time.

I think the key is to NOT try to get that "every-hair-in its-place" tight slick look. That much pressure can spell breakage for fraigle edges. :(

But I m glad and encouraged to see that BUNS have worked for some many!

I bun 5 days a week and some times on the weekends for 5 years. I am in the Army. My hair has never been in better shape, I guess since I don't mess with it as much.

I've been bunning since April this year, and my hair is very thick and strong. i just trimmed almost 3 weeks ago and I keep my hair in a bun 24/7 and i find my hair is griowing out fast because its always protected and ultra moisturised.
