I have always wondered about her hair, I think its really pretty she seems to have 3c texture.
Does anyone know if this is her natural hair or if she has used any chemicals?

This was janet on good times. I think she wore a light press and curl back then. But She always had her natural curls on the side by her ears.

I also thought I heard her say that on her velvet rope CD ('Got till its gone video) that was her real hair texture but with some added hair. I think Janet has a like a 3 something hair texture. She may or may not "enhance it" with texlaxing it. I know her front hairline and sides are super fine compared to her childhood pics.

I don't remember her having curly hair as a child:

I really think she has a good stylist: texlax or something or she is doing something to enhance her natural curls. Either way...I want to know.

Thats definitely a texlax she has a kinkier texture naturally.....I actually like the way they texlaxed her hair....there was a time her hair was thinning out horribly clearly overprocessed but her hair seems to be in great shape now:yep:

they texlaxed her into a 3c texture and then they add tracks for length and fullness....its a great look on her.

Thanks never knew it was possible to texlax in a certain texture and still have ringlets like that ...how is that done ?

I agree! I have 4 a hair and I can get ringlets on the sides by twirling it around my fingers.

I don't know. When I was a child, my hair looked nothing like it does now. It was always pressed, so it was heat "trained" could be the case for her too. And hair changes. *shrugs*

from the Rhythm Nation era, I would be inclined to believe that the curls were her natural texture with a ton of really good weave.

Yeah but having your hair change from 4a to 3c and still have ringlets.:perplexed How does that work...
I'd guess you'd add oil to the relaxer and leave it on untill your coils loosen into curls....but there are a buncha texlaxed ladies on here that have done it so you can do a search and take a look at their technique.....there are also really gorgeous new and improved jherri curl relaxers that will leave you with straw set curls:yep:

Hey OP! Haven't seen you around in a minute! Welcome back!

Janet is adorable (with the exception of that horrific nose job). I have no comment on her hair.

Here's a pic of Janet when she made her debut in 1974 at her brothers las vegas show. Just looked it up on people.com then searched for the image. It appears she does have hair in the 3's. Her edges look super thin but her hair looks like it has ringlets?

Hi awwwww thanks....I have been a bit busy and I admit have been stalking some more forums :p feels good to be back home though

Can't you get ringlets by texturizing over breaded hair? I think someone had a thread about it. Her hair came out GREAT (saying it like Tony the tiger)

yep I agree:yep:. I think her Penny days was blow dried or pressed hair so you can't really tell her texture.... but I think her curls are natural and she adds weave for fullness.

All I know is she was the cutest little girl!! :)
She reminds me so much of my god daughter! :love2:

I didn't know that was possible either:ohwell:.

To change one texture into another and still have uniform curls?

I think back to her Penny days and her texture was not as curly so I suspect chemicals. It looks great.

That's because "curly" wasn't in back then. The afro was, so even if her hair is type 3 ringlets, they would have picked it out.

My mother told me that her sister who has type 3 hair did this.

I think Janet's natural hair is curly, like the 3rd picture.

She was on Leno last night and her hair was curly like it is in the OP's second pic. I really like it that way. She looked so pretty!
