What's a girl to do????

Okay so here it goes. I am a big fan off braids since I know for a fact that they can help me to grow my hair fast. And I've been getting braids all last year with excellent results. I just took out my last set in Oct. 04 and I wanted a new set so that I could be in the Braid Challenge. But me and my hair braider had a fall out and we are no longer talking.

So there is a beauty supply store next to my job and everytime I go in there, there is a girl giving hair advice and helping the customers with wig selections and so on. So we started taking and the topic of me wanting to get my hair braided came up. So then she says, "girl I can braid your hair for $65." I thought that was a fair price so I decided to go ahead with it.

So I scheduled a date to get my hair braided, and then I had to cancel because somethig came up. And this happened 3 times! (That was the Lord say: Girl, dont do it! but I didnt listen :ohwell: ) So I went to get my hair braided. Now all I wanted was cornrows in the front and boxed braids at the back. And I wanted her to feed the hair in the cornrows so that I wouldnt have that big bump of hair in the front. And I explained all this to her and she said that she knew how to do it.

So she starts doing the cornrows at the front and she is pulling my hair super tight so then I said, you are doing too tight so then she eases up. Or so I thought. I swear by the 5th braid I felt absolutly nothing because I got an instant migrane from the first 4 that she put in. And on top of that there was some guys in the house smoking weed. OMG, I hate that smell.

So anyways to end my story because I am getting upset again, she didnt know how to feed the hair in and I still had that bump in the front! My hair looked like a hot mess boilded in garbage juice! And to make it worse, it only lasted ONE WEEK! it got frizzy so quick and I tied it up every night and whenever I was in the house. So I dont understand how that happened.

When I take out my braids, I am used to the hair just sliding out once I unravel the braids. I dont know what that girl did, but every single braid was in a knot at the root. Who the hell ties a knot at the root of a braid. So I had to untie every braid! And when I took out the braids, I expects a weeks worth of shedding but I had like a months worth. I dont know what that beyotch did to my hair but it is now falling out. I was making such great progress by listening to you guys. My hair was growing in thick and long, and now, its a mess. Before the braids I had shoulder length hair. Now I know that may not be much to some, but to me that was awasome (considering that before I found this board, my hair was just bearly touching my neck.) And not to toot my own horn because I owe this all to you guys, but my friends would always compliment my hair and how its growing in so healthy. The first thing that one of my friends said after I took out my braids was: What the f  :ohwell: :( happened to your hair! And he's a guy! Now my hair is thin, limp, unevn and dry! I still cannot believe that all of this could happen from a week of bad braids! I think that I have to get my hair cut in a bob and start over. Whats a girl to do.

PS, I know that is long and I am sorry. I just really need some help.

Well my suggestion would be do a deep protein treatment to slow down the breakage you are experience. I don't think there is a product that will slow down shedding. But keep babying your hair and take a break from braids for about a month or so. Hopefully more members would chime in.

SexySin- I am so sorry this happened :(

I had a similar experience once when I let a girl I knew try and flat twist my hair. I left before she finished my entire head and took the ones she put in out the same day, but enough damage was done.

I've found that the best thing is to focus on moisture and minimal manipulation. Just rinse with warm water, apply a good moisturizing conditioner (Humectress is my favorite), smooth in some kind of oil, and pull it back into a loose bun. You can tie on a scarf at night to keep the edges smooth. Finger combing only in the shower.

I promise you that within a few weeks (a month at the most) your hair will back to its normal self.

Oh girl I am so sorry. Several years ago my old hairdresser begged me to let her braid my daughter's beautiful healthy hair. I finally gave in and let her do it one summer. Girlfriend was all in a rush and when I finally took my daughter's braids down her hair was completely tangled and intertwined with the extension hair--my daughter did not even need any extra hair--but anyway, much damage was done, not so much with length but with the thickness and health. Hard lesson learned. Not too long ago a friend told me she wanted to frenchbraid my daughters hair--I always do it in single box braids--cause I can't frenchbraid too good, plus her hair tangles so much. Anywhoo, she's like, "Yeah, I'll blow-dry it and then I'm going to braid it real tight." I'm thinking to myself awww h*** no, ain't gonna happen. Why people wanna be messin' in people's hair when its doing so well? It's like they just want to play in some hair and mess it up. My daughter's hair finally came back healthy but it took a lot of babying and keeping most other people's hands, other than mine and hers, out of her hair.

Your story just makes me want to punch somebody!

Hang in there, we all have set-backs. You'll get back to shoulder-length and I do know what you mean about being shoulder-length being a big deal because I have never quite made it to shoulder-length my whole life. You did it once and you can do it again. :)
