If you had to choose between a high end blow dryer or flatiron, which would you purchase? Which gives you straighter results when you are going for a super sleek look? Please vote in poll and/or post your opinion. Thanks, ladies:grin:

I'd say if you are natural, a flat iron would be the only way to get sleek results but if you are relaxed, all you need is a light blowdry and then an overnight wrap; next morning it will be very sleek and smooth.

I say blowdryer: can a blower + round brush = fresh relaxer look as appose to a flatiron: its gets my hair flat but not salon silky straight: maybe rollerset + flat iron but i prefer a blowdryer

Def a flatiron, a very nice one, IMO, hand held blowdryers rips out my hair......so a flatiron is better, and now, some of these flatirons you can use to curl your hair.....so it's like u can get more benefits from one flatiron....

I say, a plug-in flat iron [rather than a marcel flat iron]. Depending on hair type and the products used sleek results can be achieved by air-drying as a substitute and using flat iron. I have yet to see a substitute for flat iron that would give sleek results.

A wet to dry flat iron, hands down. I love mine  I have absolutely no need for my blow drier these days.

i think flat irons are a etter investment because you dont want to place something directly on your hair thats going to harm it. with a blow dryer it doesnt have to directly touch your hair.

with that said i invested just one week ago in a bed head blowdryer(marshalls had it for $19 when it normally sales for $60) and i used it this passed saturday and its like it kept moisture in my hair. my hair felt moist. my other blowdryer never made my hair feel like that.

I began to choose BOTH but realized you said "high end" and well of course I would buy a HIGH END flatiron b/c it's the "finishing" touch. Blowdryers can help straighten, but if they could get you that super sleek look well we wouldn't need those irons, lol! If you are attempting a low/no heat regimen then maybe a good dryer will suffice just as long as you get the more efficient healthy ones. I have asked myself this question b/c I wanted a new iron and dryer but I have decided to stay away from heat for a while so I may need to replace the dryer first.

Do any naturals air dry thier hair?

Sometimes I let it airdry in plaits to stretch out some. Then I blow through it real quick. It makes it easier and less work. I wouldn't be able to flat iron hair that had just been airdried though. It wouldn't get all the kinks out. I rarely blowdry my hair at home though.

I tried to blow dry my hair strait and almost broke my hair dryer.:blush: I lost too much hair trying to straiten. I just don't know if I can straiten my natural hair without a relaxer.

Blowdryers have never been popular on this board.

If they were used more often, there would be way more votes for a high end blowdryer.

With that said, I say blowdryer. As a blowdryer user, the higher end appliances make a huge difference.

Meanwhile, I think a moderate flatiron is fine. They are so plentiful that you can get a really nice one for a very moderate price.

That's been my method in the past. I would air dry in twist and braids and then flat iron and although my hair got straight, my ends reverted too fast. I use really good heat protective and moisture block products so I figure it must be the tools I'm using..hence the post and poll. I'm planning to straighten my hair the first week of April (four month heat free mark)and want the results to be really nice.

Thanks for your replies ladies. I'm leaning towards a Sedu or FHI flatiron :yep:
