what do you think you need to change to fix it. For me it would be breakage /images/graemlins/cry3.gif and shedding. I think I need to moisturize my scalp more and use an intense protein treatment more often thatn I do.

For me it is frizz. I don't really know how to fix it because I have tried most commercial frizz fixers and nothing works. I think my haircut would be the fix. If my hair still frizzes after I cut it I guess I am going to have to get a buzzcut or something. /images/graemlins/wink.gif

this is EASY... shedding and psoriasis! /images/graemlins/cry3.gif

this is HARD... fixing it! /images/graemlins/cry3.gif the shedding is caused by the pill. i stopped taking it, but it's still kind of there. the psoriasis i've had for 20+ years. the stuff that used to work for it doesn't anymore. i've actually learned to live with the psoriasis. my hair continues to grow despite the problem, but the shedding scares me because i don't want my hair to thin out. /images/graemlins/ohwell.gif

dryness! /images/graemlins/confused.gif although i do keep my hair moisturized daily, i needn't make the same mistake i did last year /images/graemlins/shocked.gif. I always found myself too busy and forgetting to deep condition weekly. i'm desperately trying not to make that mistake this year /images/graemlins/tongue.gif. i've been alternating with deep conditioning one week and protein conditioning the next every since my weave came out in december /images/graemlins/grin.gif.

Definately dryness and shedding. It's a fight trying to control both. /images/graemlins/crazy.gif

a few weeks ago i would have told you dryness, frizzies, and breakage. thanks to regular washings, deep cond and scurl plus world of curls activator i have those well under control. the only thing is apparently slow growth /images/graemlins/crazy.gif

For me it's frizz during the summer time. Humidity in the D.C. area is crucial /images/graemlins/mad.gif

Frizz in the top front and crown of my hair. The slightest bit of moisture in the air and it's ...puff! /images/graemlins/cry3.gif

For me, it's my dry ends because my hair is overprocessed. The ends require ssoooooo much attention. Next week, I'll be getting a touch-up after 3 months, I will hopefully be able to trim off all the damaged/overprocessed ends and with spring approaching, Looks like a good look for my hair.

My dry, damaged ends arghhhhh! /images/graemlins/crazy.gif I did a whole post on all my mistakes that caused this not long ago. It is super bad with the really harsh dry winter right now in the Northeast. It seems like my hair dries out so fast, no matter what I put in it. I can't wear my hair wet, because it is too cold.

The only thing I can do now is every night coat my lengths in pure Castor oil, and my ends in Hollywood Beauty Castor oil treament(thick like grease but with no petroleum jelly, only there is some mineral oil in it). I keep it in a bun everyday. I have to slowly cut my ends off.

overprocessed ends and shedding/breakage (why me?? /images/graemlins/smirk.gif)

I actually get a decent amount of growth per month, but between clipping off my damaged ends and fighting the breakage and shedding so my hair doesn't thin out; I barely get to see any results!
Its coming along... i measured in at 13" this month(measurement from area just above the ear) from 12 in december.. and i've clipped 1.5 inches from dec to now. so I would've gotten 2.5 inches of new growth if i had healthy ends.

You name it I've tried it. Even when I was relaxed it wuould frizz(especially as it gets humid). The only reason I ever relaxed in the first place was when I was 18 years old and a beautician told me a relaxer would stop the frizz...it did for about 2 weeks..then it would frizz again...only not as much. After all the over processing (all in the name of getting rid of the frizz) I stopped relaxing to give my hair a rest. I then decided to stop altogether since it frizzed anyways. But I must admit it does frizz more since I've been natural. The only time my hair DIDN'T FRIZZ alot was when I had a blunt cut and kept the ends trimmed(one of the reasons I'm getting rid of all the layers).

Right now it is dryness because the weather is so cold and harsh in MD. The other problem is getting length. Other people say they see my hair growing but I don't see signficant growth. The ends appear longer however my hair is growing at a snail's pace. I tkae vitamins- Shem min, Biotin, MSM, multi-vitamin, B-6 and flax seed oil

I am starting to have dryness and I am contributing that to me running out of my conditioners GPB and Island Butter, Also using the Carol's Daughter Hair Butter seemed to make my hair dryer and the water. So I need some more GPB, Island Butter conditioners and a good water filter for my shower. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Hardest hair problems:
For me, it's shedding and these darn flakes. /images/graemlins/mad.gif

How to fix them:
- For the shedding I still haven't tried but want to try an intense protein treatment. Still kinda scares me though since everyone says the protein can make your hair hard. I guess I'm just being chicken.
- For the flakes I'm not really sure. Had them all my life or as long as I can remember. They sometimes spread to my forehead. /images/graemlins/cry3.gif I've tried Nizoral, Neutrogena T-Gel, Head & Shoulders, Selsun Blue, Seabreeze, Baking Soda and Listerine. If I wash my hair precisely every three days and apply pure carrot oil to the scalp before I wash my hair the flakes aren't that bad or noticeable (I've been kinda lazy lately though so it's pretty bad now). /images/graemlins/ohwell.gif

Mine were breakage and dry hair! I've changed a lot of my hair habits since finding this board but the ones I've found most effective are:
1. Silk scarf and satin pillowcase.
2. Hot oil treatments every other wash w/olive oil, castor oil and honey. (The first time I did this I got so many compliments on my hair the next day. Thanks, CarmenRose!)
3. Washing every 4 days and using Motions Moisture Plus everytime.
4. Substituting some of the shampoos w/just conditioner shampoos.
5. Used Motions CPR once and Aphogee Keratin Reconstructor another time (within the last month) and my breakage has really decreased. I'm scared to use these too often too.

I feel confident now that I can start to retain some length.
I'm on my way!

Tea,

Don't be afraid of Protein!!! I've used both the Nexxus Emergencee and the Aphogee, and they've worked wonders for me. I honestly have hardly any breakage anymore, and that's miraculous because I used to get A LOT!! You just have to be sure to follow with a good moisturizing conditioner (that is VERY important). The trick is not to use the protein treatment TOO often, but how often to use it depends on your individual situation!! /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Dryness is my main problem. I have a small dry scalp thing but I can handle that. The dryness that comes with natural hair is so /images/graemlins/censored.gif hard to deal with. After my braids I'm going to try curl activator.

Re: What your the hardest hair problem to control

My problems would be slight breakage which I think is due to the no lye relaxer in my hair and uneven length in certain areas, luckily it's barely noticable. Oops, almost forgot, and to fix it I think I have to switch to a lye relaxer, drink more water and come up with a routine that works for me. I'm still trying different products to figure out what works best for my hair, but so far the this is what has helped:

Aveda sap moss shampoo
Creme of nature shampoo
Wild Growth oil (amazing softness)
Nexxus Humectress
Redken Anti-snap leave in treatment (really helps stop breakage)
Wearing protective styles when I'm home like ponytails.

My main problems are thinning and shedding /images/graemlins/cry3.gif I got a tip from the board to use vitamin e and castor oil, the thinning is happening mainly on the right side of my head. Once I get these two items this weekend I am hoping this will stop the thinning and shedding, until then I am making sure to moisturize, moisturize, moisturize.

EmeraldSky:

I think the Aveda moss shampoo is very good because it seems very mild, but still moisturizes and cleans the hair.

My hardest is breakage because it seems I can't go past 6 to 8 wks. for my touch-up without experincing major (IMO) breakage and then I feel that even the best stylist overlaps a little relaxer which also leads to breakage. I have been using Nexxus Emergencee to combat this and I just bought the Eulecence Extended Moisture Repair Treatment which I hope helps as well. I have cut down on my blowdryer and curling iron use as well, which has helped tremendously.

The hardest thing for me is about 2-3 weeks after the damn touchup. The regrowth kicks in and it looses that smooth sleek look and feel and the whole of my head acts and behaves totally different that i have to use different products.

For me my biggest problem is major severe tangling after shampooing and I'm still searching/hoping for a solution.

dryness and breakage. my mission is keeping the moisture in and curbing the breakage. God bless you all.

Dryness...It seems no matter what I do, it's always there this time of year. I've been wearing a hat with a scarf sewn in and my hair is moisturized and still dryness.. /images/graemlins/blush.gif

In the summer, frizzies galore...

I've been noticing some shedding in the last two days...It's kind of scary, but I'm trying not to worry about it. I haven't had the chance to wash my hair in over seven days /images/graemlins/crazy.gif because I didn't have enough time and I hurt my hand (preventing me) from doing it..I think this could be a factor in the shedding..I honestly don't know../images/graemlins/weird.gif

Hey JenJen /images/graemlins/wave.gif I'm glad the honey and olive oil combo is working for you..I got that from a hair recipe and I love love it. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

I want to add to previous post about fizzing that I also have a problem getting my bangs to grow out. I've had bangs all my life and have NEVER been able to get past my nose...any suggetsions?

OK, I don't know if this qualifies because it isn't neccesarily a HAIR problem, as much as it is a ME problem...but here goes /images/graemlins/crazy.gif lol!

I am HEAVY HANDED and impatient!!!! This causes breakage, not a ton, but any breakage is breakage I don't need.

So in order to fix this I am being as GENTLE as possible with my hair. I am also trying to set aside a DAY (on my deep condition and unbraid days) to gently unbraid, gently comb (from the BOTTOM UP) etc. etc.

I know this is all such basic stuff, but some days I'm in a hurry, and I know it's cost me some hair.
