One of the many joys and challenges for me on my journey to stronger, longer, and healthier hair is discovering which products and hair care methods have been effective and ineffective.
Here's what works for my hair:
*Rolling my hair every night. I use a setting lotion. Combined with the oils already on my ends, the process provides wonderful moisture for my hair, not to mention nice body for my fine hair.
*Using creams, such as Profectiv Root Health on my scalp. It nourishes my hair as well.
*Kenra products, esp. the Moisturizing Shampoo and Conditioner, and the Daily Provision Leave-In Spray Conditioner.
*Profectiv Healthy Ends - when used sparingly, and as needed, helps to make my ends less dry. Otherwise, my hair goes into product and protein overload.
*Heat in moderation - I am experimenting with air drying. I may combine a partial air dry with a partial blowdry. Still, my hair really benefitted from the complete air dry it received on Wednesday evening.
What Does Not Work:
*Wrapping my hair at night - not only is my hair too flat, it is often left dry, depsite the fact that I wear a satin wrap. Which leads me to have to load up on product to moisturize it.
*Overloading my hair with too much product to keep it moisturized. My hair, esp. my ends, suffered from product overload, and became weaker, i.e. a bit more breakage.
Applying Oils- they work reasonably well on my hair when it is damp, but I have not been too impressed with their performance on my hair when dry.
*Using end treatments, such as TIGI Bedhead's Ego Boost. Again, product and protein overload.
*Lubricating my ends every night. My ends could not take it, and had the opposite effect of what was to have occured.
*Using too many products within a short period of time, and using too many products when washing and conditioning my hair. I need to keep it simple for the most effective results, and to commit to the same products for a period of time.
*Extending my relaxers - my 4b natural hair is too tight and too coily for this, resulting in snapping hairs.
Still undecided about:
*Using my ceramic flat iron. Perhaps if I air dry, then use the flat iron, it may be a healthier way to style my hair.
*Completely air drying my hair. As I said above, I need to experiment with this method in order to see what works best for my hair.
Have not tried:
*Conditioner Washes
Anybody else???
