Hey everyone. So I was so excited to wash my hair today after my re-touch so that I could test out my new EVOO, honey and eggs homemade concoction. These days when I wash my hair I don't have a lot of shedding or breakage- enough so that I can count strands. This time I did everything the same but use the mix as a pre-treatment (at room temp.). And every time I would wash something out I noticed strands and ends breaking off.

Even when I was twisting it afterwards. Now, in general there wasn't too much breakage but for me it was a lot.

I don't understand, it's like all of a sudden my hair went backwards and got a lil weak. Plus I noticed that when I took the cap off the pre-treat my hair was a lil stiff. I imagined that it would be smooth and silky. I read others write about slip, maybe I had so much slip my hair easily started to break.

Has anyone had this problem before? What do you think it could be? I don't think it's the relaxer, my stylist has been doing my hair for almost 3 yrs. now. Maybe I could have waited longer in between. Next week I'm not going to use it and see what happens.

-did u moisturize immediately after the treatment?
-did u use cold water to wash out the egg mixture?
-how long did you leave the treatment in the hair?

why did you put egg in your hair? is that a trend going around here? sorry i don't come to the hair board too often. but sweetie don't put egg in your hair. there are a lot of products out there that will do a much better job. second, relaxers are pretty harsh chemicals. i think shedding after you get one is to be expected along with some breakage. i don't think anyone on here has no breakage. i wouldn't worry about it. such things happen with relaxers and everytime one is applied you run a risk. so i say moisturize and say away from protein (eggs) for a week or two to allow your hair to regain moisture before you go and dry it up with protein.

this is Off Topic but Anky, i love your picture of Billie

Okay, after an hour I just rinsed it out in mild water and then shampooed. I just added the eggs for fun b/c I heard other people used it. Now I know better. As far as the breakage, it could be the relaxer but I doubt since I've never experienced breakage like that (at least since Jan.). I'll stay moisturizing.

Hi again

I use food all the time as pretreatments. The problem was that you left the egg on too long in your hair. I think that we only need an egg mixture on our hair 5-15 minutes tops! This is how long I keep my egg or mayonnaise mixture in before clarifying, shampooing, and conditioning

ITA--It was the Egg. How long had it it been since your re-touch? Washing your hair too soon plus the egg could have been the main culprits.

I think it was the egg too ladies. Thanks for your advice maybe I'll just try EVOO and honey. Do you think it's okay to leave it on for an hour? BN16, I don't think it's the relaxer because I've been getting one every 6 wks. since January and I've never experienced breakage like that. Although it wasn't a lot, it was a lot compared to usual. Any other suggestions? Probelm solved. I'll update you next time I use it and see what happens (w/o the egg!).
