what to do with a Denman brush???

hey so i got the denman brush since erbody and their mama recommends it cuz i figure it will come in handy during my transition.

the first time i try to detangle with it i didnt really like it cuz i felt i was loosing way too much hair.

but then i was reading a thread and someone said they use it for brushing hair back and i tried it last night and this morning and loved it i didnt loose any hair as i would have with my big boar bristle brush. someone else said they use it to blow dry so im gonna try it on sunday.

HOW DO YOU USE YOUR DENMAN BRUSH AND I WANT ALL YOUR JUICY LITTLE SECRETS I WANNA KNOW WAYS U USE IT THAT OTHER PEOPLE MIGHT NOT EVEN USE IT OK.

I just use mine primarily for detangling. It does get a lot of hair , but they are shed hairs, though I do have to be careful with it. A lot of people use it for curl definition, but I like fingercombing better. Oh I also use it to brush my hair back into a puff.

i (relaxed) use it to detangle, but i comb with a wide tooth comb first and usually work in sections, because this brush WILL pull out some hair. on my natural cousin (4A), i use it to rollerset her hair because it stretches the hair out more than a comb.

This post is exactly what I do too! My hair in my avatar is from the use of detangling with the denman and it just clumped my curls up right after using it. Also while wet, I'll sometimes place the tips of the brush on my scalp and lightly massage my scalp with it.

I cannot do without my Denman.

I make sure my hair is loaded with conditioner. I then do sort of a "pre" detangle with the Jilbere shower comb if it's been a few days. After that, I section off with my hands and detangle with the Denman to rid all shed hairs. it works like a charm.

I do the same as above but I have a three step detangling process. I know it sounds like a lot, but it runs pretty quickly and I have less knots and tangles than before. I load up with some cheap slippy conditioner...lots of it. Then I detangle quickly with my fingers - this gets out any of the big tangles. Then I run my shower comb through working from the ends. Next I shampoo my scalp only...rinse...put in a better conditioner that I can let marinate on my head. I work the denman through for any of those shed hairs that were still hanging on and it gives me some clumpy curls. I do all of this in sections and when I am done with the last step I'll put in a big fat twist. When I'm done with the shower I'll rinse the conditioner out (sometimes with the twist still in - I like to leave some behind).

At one time I hated the denman because I felt that it was ripping out my hair. After I discovered working my way down I fell in love. I got that method from this board I think from Lady K...I don't really remember.

I am so glad I decided to purchase one of these now that I am transitioning! I too only use it on heavily conditioned hair. I make sure there are no serious tangles with my fingers or shower comb, then work my way from tip to root in sections under running water. It makes my hair lay down a lot better so I don't look like I have a mini fro under my relaxed hair when I get out of the shower. I make sure to remind myself to be extra extra gentle when detangling, that took a little getting used to, but I think I have it down now.

It was weird seeing the shed hair in the brush at first, but I notice that when I get out of the shower and start to moisturize my hair I don't have those annoying shed hairs everywhere causing my hair to tangle.

Same here- I kinda freaked out at first but I love my Denman D3. I use it the same way other ladies have used it-as a detangler. I have maybe 6, 7 or 8 sections in my hair that I finger comb first, then use a wide tooth comb, then my Denman, making sure each section is saturated with water and conditioner. I don't lose a lot of hair anymore as I have found this method works best for me. In the week, I deal with less tangles-and my hair lays flatter in a bun.

I use mine to "dethach" my hair after shower detangling. Basically after a CW, I detangle with my shower comb, ring my hair out, then slather on my leave in followed by coconut oil and then I use my Denman. That serves 2 purposes, to get out the shed hair and to get the leave-in thourghout my hair

I expect to see plently of hair because I don't comb other than when I CW. That could range from 2-7 days. So, my dethach method is to get out all of the loose hairs that would have shed with regular daily combing.

That's what I do minus the twist. Folks were beginning to turn on the Denman because of hair loss and this method cut that down. I also use it to spot refresh frizzy coils in the morning. I just wet the ends then gently ease the brush through the end. I let the weight of the brush do the work.

That is a good idea. I never thought of that. I'm going to have to try it. I must say that I need to put my hair in twists because I don't want it to get tangled again while I shower.

Based on your description it sounds like the one that I have, D3.

how do u choose which one to get? is it by texture or how defined u want ur curls?

I chose mine's based on the product's description as being for short-medium length hair.

thanx hun the box i got didnt even really specify which it was now i know i have a d3 which is perfect for my hair since mine is short nd i can use it up to medium it will be a long while before im long so ill get my ten dollars out of it.

I did a search on LHCF and other black hair boards to see what most folks were using. Then I went to denman.com to find out what the differences were between the D3 and D4. The difference between those 2 is that the D3 has 7 rows and the D4 has 9 rows. Sally's was out of D4, so I figured D3 would be just as good... and it's worth all $8 I spent on it

you were using it in the shower, right?

i do like others have mentioned - wet my hair, load some conditioner through it, then work the shower comb through, then smooth it all out with the denman. best hair tool ever.

I have a D5. I use it for styling my wash n' go's because it makes my curls pop and be more uniform. I also use it for getting all the shed hairs out after I shampoo and detangle with a wide tooth comb. I will not use the denman for detangling because for me it is terrible for detangling. I always detangle with my shower comb first.
