Hi,

I wanted to know what you all think might be the best route to take. I have been getting perms since forever, it came automatically like puberty and I have no recollection of what my natural hair was like back in the day. (For real, I was like 10 yrs old when it started!) So now I am 13 wks post relaxer and I have noticed that my hair has gotten so thick and wavy. I don't have a problem combing it as of yet and I wear a half wig so I can get by without perming for a while yet. However, I am having a bit of shedding and I know that a decision must be made soon. I really would like to find out what kind of hair I am carrying around on my head but I am scared to risk the unknown. What would you do? Also, if anybody can hip me on how to do a fokti and stuff I would be most grateful!

I'm in the same boat. I was relaxed around age 10 and am now almost 16 weeks without relaxing. I am finally seeing what I think is my natural hair texture. I keep reading that once the relaxed ends are gone that the cursl may change.

I decided to transition to natural. We shall see if I can do it.

These are photos of my curls as of Monday night.

Fotki is pretty easy. You can open an account for free at www.fotki.com and then upload pictures right from your computer.

Hey there,

Girl your hair is gawgeous! It is really growing. I think you should "stay the course" as GW Bush used to say. I think I will too but I am "scurred". Maybe we could buddy up and do this experiement together, I need somebody with me girl!

Thanks! It's getting a bit difficult to manage the curls so I may start wearing more curly styles to avoid trying to straighten my curls.

There are a ton of ladies on here that are stretching their relaxing dates & also many who are transitioning to natural. You will find tons of support on this site for stretching relaxing time or growing your natural hair.

Feel free to post questions.

Give it a try and see! The only way your gonna know is by letting it grow and seeing what pops out! And if you don't like it or your not ready for it then you can always go back to relaxing.

I'm just over 14 months post now and i bc'ed last month. Before my transition i had no recollection of y natural texture at all. I got relaxed around the same age. ( maybe even 8 or 9 ) The transition was definately a journey and you will deal with shedding thats for sure.

Now that im natural it's STILL a journey learning about my texture. Sometimes it's annoying and sometimes i wanna throw the towel in but honestly going natural was the best thing i ever did for my hair and for those moment when i just can't deal with it...i flat iron and my hir comes out just as straight as when it was relaxed......except MUCH thicker and softer!

I have a fotki in my profile you can view if you'd like. I can't give much great advice on fotki's because im still learning how to do it myself lol

Thank you so much! It is something that I have never had to face, never even thought about before I saw so many others that could do it! What do you do for styling on a regular basis? Especially in the beginning?

Thanks again! What are you doing on a daily basis to keep your curls coming and to keep moisturized? That has been an uphill battle, my hair will be dry like quick fast in a hurry even though I co-wash almost daily and seal with conditioner.

I use olive oil cream and coconut oil. But I have noticed that when I use a leave-in with lots of silicone (Herbal Essences None of Your Frizziness this week) that adding more moisture doesn't seem to work...so I just add coconut oil for shine. My hair likes silicone based products but I have to wash more often since the silicones seal in (and seal out) additional moisture. I only use the leave-in on soaking wet hair though since I presume that it seals in the moisture.
