What to do if my hair when I leave the country?

I plan on leaving the country for about 6 months in 2009. Most likely it will be somewhere in Asia and maybe the UK for a bit. Currently, I am wearing an EP weave. I know it is not realistic for me to keep it up while I am traveling. What do you all suggest that I do with my hair for those 6 months? I was hoping to be BSL by next year this time. I am afraid with me leaving the country. I will not meet my goals.

I think you will be ok if you bring your good deep conditioners and protein stuff...try doing braidouts

I did braidouts and bunned most of the time. If you're relaxed be VERY careful if you're getting a touch up in a foreign country. When I lived in South America, I made the mistake of allowing someone to apply an American relaxer I had brought with me. I didn't know that in Peru, they usually use Japanese relaxers, which are completely different. I had a huge setback from that, but I wouldn't have traded my time away for longer hair. Just keep your hair simple so you can focus on enjoying your time abroad.

I left the country for 15 months, the whole time I co washed and kept it in a bun. Before leaving I was ear lengh. Yeah I had a small ponytail. Now im below SL. While over there I kept using heat, on top of the heat that was outside, so I had a few setbacks. I found LHCF towards the end of my tour. But wet bunning and co washing helped me out big time. You should be good. Of course DC when you can. I didn't have the time and still came from over there okay.

How about braids? I was in Asia for awhile and able to maintain/ grow my hair while there. In the UK, you should have no issue finding someone who can rebraid, particularly if you go to London

I'm gonna be in Paris for 6 weeks summer. I'm want to get a high quality weave so it's easier to deal with than my own hair on wash day. Just wash, braid and airdry. :)

I got some questions for you first.

1. What style can you do by yourself? By this I mean relaxers, weaves, braids, braidouts, twist outs, rollersets?

2. Are you natural or relaxed?

3. Did you see that quick weave tutorial that peppers did, is that something you would like to do

4. Do you ever wear falls, wigs, hair pieces.

The one piece of advice that I can give you at this point is that you should take all your stuff, moisturizer, relaxer, flat iron, products, poo, con, tools etc; You never know what they will have available there

I usually rock braids/twists (extensions) when im away from home

you could also plait your hair and put a wig on top of it

your flat iron may not work overseas. You're better off buying one while you're there.

Maybe an adapter could help - I used one years ago when I went to Greece, my curling irons and blow dryer worked fine and saved the day on several occasions.

Something like these:

i was in argentina for six months and they have no black people (which should be slightly similar to asia). i was too scared to go to the hair salons there and made sure to stack up on products/tools and do it myself. in the winter i wore my hair straight but when summer hit i cowashed a lot and did braidouts and buns.
also i have a friend who went to hong kong and she said it was really humid so if you go make sure you have some anti frizz products

eta: i bought my flat iron there to avoid any electrical craziness but i used an adapter for my blow dryer since it was a dual voltage one.

In Southeast asia its so humid even relaxed theres not much to do but wash n go..i would stick to cowash and bring a blowdryer and flatiron for special occasions...

Weaves are the easiest for me
2. Are you natural or relaxed?
Natural
3. Did you see that quick weave tutorial that peppers did, is that something you would like to do?
I will check it out.

4. Do you ever wear falls, wigs, hair pieces.
I have before. This was my first thought. Just buy a few and bring it with me.
