What to do about "Weightless" hair????

I have that type of hair that is just SO light, thin, but feels thick at the roots, has a swang, but not that heavy swang it should. It looks good in a photo but in person it's like strands of cotton if you will. Light and weightless. NO density. I use protein conditioners to try to thicken the strands I guess but it is not helping. My hair continues to grow and get longer, but I can't just wear it down on it's own. I have to add a track or 2 of weave just to give it some weight so it will swing like it should when pressed. Now I have 3c/4a maybe type hair, but sometimes I wish I had my roomates courser textured hair because even though she gets a perm, when she presses it out it has that heavy swang to it and it looks so pretty. A wiff of air would blow mine out of place immediately. How do I fix this? I know my hair can go back to that because it used to have a little more weight to it when I was younger and permed but now, It's a NO go...... Please help.

My hair is sort of like that. I upped my protein and one of my LHCF sisters sent me some Henna and it feels much heavier. Not so fly-away-ish. DCing also helps plump my hair by filling it up with moisture

also try some coconut oil, not too much, just enough to give it some weight. that usually works for me:grin: also a blunt cut helps with the movement/swang too.

Try Biotin. Its suppose to promote hair growth and thickness if I'm correct. I have Biotin Conditioner from Whole Foods. I think this might have been the reason my hair has gotten thicker.

I agree with the coconut oil, especially EVOO (I sometimes use just a tiny dab of blue magic coconut oil after a press to give my hair some weight). Adding some curl to the ends of the hair helps as well:yep:

I take GNC hair skin and nails and it has a nice amout of Biotin in it already I found out.

When I used a Cellophane on my hair it seemed heavier, but it might also be helpful to embrace your fluffy locks.

Don't fight them.

Don't compare your hair to others' hair.

That will set you up for big-time hair envy. (Don't even look at SouthernBella's hair)

What do you like about your hair?

Eat well, increase your water, fruit, vegetable intake. Try natural thickening shampoos/conditioners for a temporary fix, avoid attaching hair to your real hair, that cannot be good for your roots.

Try getting a rinse with color. My hair is fine so sometimes it isn't is heavy as I would like. But a year ago I got a dark rinse on a whim, and my hair felt and looked heavier until the rinse eventually washed out. I've tried clear rinses too but they don't do as much for my hair.

Is Henna a temporary thing?

The thickening/heavy effect lasts for up to three months! :yep: I have the same kind of hair but my plan is to henna the heck out of it until I have the weight I want and then continue to henna once a month to keep the effect going.

Going natural has helped, as well. My hair doesn't look nearly as "fly away" in it's natural state.

Going natural did not help me actually. I am now completely natural, I posted pics of my hair texture in a recent post it looks a lot like your curls actually. My perm had more weight to it than going natural. Does the Henna change your hair color? Where can I get it and how do you do yours?

Oooh! Maybe we're hair twins! :) Well, I haven't henna'd yet, but I'm gonna! Just waiting to receive it now. I'm doing so because Kinnikakes (have you seen her hair? AMAZING!) said that her hair was very fine 4a texture and that henna had weighed it down and gave it more swing. Just what I'm lookin for!

It can change hair color but I've read that jamila is the one that has to sit the longest before any dye release (several hours). So if you want the least amount of coloring you could mix up some Jamila henna without any sort of citric acid (citrus helps dye release) and use it immediately. If you use it for less than 2 hours this way, you should get very little change in color, but still get the strength/conditioning properties.

My hair has serious hang and weight when it's well conditioned and natural. But when I straighten (so far) very light weight and fly away. So I may just have to grow my hair out to my tail bone so I can have the thickness and hang time I want as a natural. :look: Hey, I'm with it!

My hair is like this(baby fine strands) :perplexed. I take biotin everyday..indigo/henna every other week..use Joico Kpak DPR every week (protein) and try to dust the ends monthly...I usually rollerset but flat iron for length checks...it's not as see thru as it used to be. I hope this helps!

i would like the heavy swing you guys talk about. my hair swings but not as much as i would like. I would like to try the henna but i do not want red hair. i might just do it anyway because i think it would also help with my hairline, which is finer than the rest of my hair.my hair is coarse for the majority.

Well, if you hennaindigo like Klomax, you'll get a nice rich deep brown/black. Not sure if this would be too much for you? I'm going this route. As soon as I can get my hands on some indigo. So far, I don't like the prices of the online indigo as much as the henna, but I think this might be my best bet.

Klomax, thanks so much for your input. Your hair is amazing in your avatar. So you do your Joico Kpak on the same day as your henna/indigo on the in between weeks? Which do you do first? Do you mind sharing where you get your henna and indigo?

Not at all...I wash my hair 1x per week.

Usually I henna for 1-2 hrs/ then indigo for at least 2 hrs...the longer you leave it in the more color your hair absorbs...If I am feeling lazy I mix 1/4C henna/ 1/4 C indigo... w/hot tap water ......then in the shower I rinse out the henna/indigo and then my

weekly routine

CW- 8 oz Suave Humecto w/ 1 T baking soda
Joico Deep Penetrating Reconstructor (2 -5 minutes ) protein
Joico Intense Hydrator..at least 1 hr (moisture)
Rollerset- NTM silk touch leave in and spray w/ 1/2 lottabody & 1/2 water as needed.....I ponytail rollerset with & w/o heat

I purchased a 5lb bag of henna from FNWL there is a LHCF discount..and I buy my indigo online from whomever... The best indigo(color) I ever purchased came from Hennasooq(LHCFer) it covered my gray hairs the best ...:yep:. I am considering a bulk purchase. The following pic is after I henna'd then indigo(it's blacker)

Good Luck !!!

Sorry ladies I am editing because I forgot to tell you I add a couple of skirts of L'Oreal Natures Therapy/Mega Repair to my Joico Hydrator(ceramides)...and I add a dime size amt of L'Anza Healing Trauma Treatment(ceramides) to my NTM leave in .

Henna fo sho.

Right now I am doing henna twice a week for a month then I will cut down to once a week (for a month) then twice a week (again for a month) then fortnightly and then I will just maintain monthly :spinning: I use Jamilia henna, because of the slow dye release.. I do not want any color at this time. I mix my henna with water and fenugreek. I don't add any oils or conditioners because I don't want to prevent the henna from doing it's job properly. I sometimes add amla (which makes the hair appear even fuller) or egg which binds the henna to the hair.

Also I add panthenol to my moisture spritz, which deeply penetrates and binds to the hair, thickening the hair strand up to 10%.

I also take a biotin supplement and hair vit which contains pantothenic acid and Niacin. Amino acids have also been proven to thicken hair.

Oh and regular protein is a MUST (for me) :lick: I have also gone back to regular dusting - thick ends are the way to go.

I have naturally dense but fine hair, however I encountered a set back earlier this year which has really thinned my hair out. :nono:

sooooo right now I am trying to gain as much thickness as possible.:yep:

So can you all tell me where to get this J Henna that releases slowly? And how do I do it? I want to do this immediately

I bought my Jamila for $4/100 grams on amazon. I figure my thin strands would need half that amount per application. You could get it for half that, though, if you can find a local indian shop in your area. Much cheaper. When you flip the box over it should say "super sifted" for easiest removal.

KLomax, I bought my amla from the same supplier where I got my Jamila henna on amazon. It was buy 5 get one free and it was $4.00 (well, $3.99).
