Male or Female?

If you've had both - which do you prefer? And why?

And finally, give him or her a shout out!

I have both a male and a female stylist BUT I think I'll start going to the male stylist exclusively. It's something about the confidence he exudes when he does my hair.

Thanks, Ray! - Rae's Hair Design, Pembroke Pines, FL

Male. I prefer a man over a woman. I find that they have a great eye for styles that suit my face and personality and pay more attention to any concerns I may have. Male stylists love to please women and some woman stylists (SOME) just don't care what you think.

Thanks, Eddie- Rita Hazan Salon, NYC

That's so true!
And their disposition seems to be more positive.

I had a male stylist whose name was Eddie and he was awesome - he moved away from Miami.

Unfortunately for me.. The 2 experiences I have had with male stylists were dreadful.

When I used to go to the hairdresser, they were always female... my hair was jacked :ohwell: I don't know if there's a connection.

Male...He always consults with me before touching my hair. He even has a file in his computer that tells him what chemicals he has used on my hair from previous visits. I love him!!! He was my first!!!

That's great. It's awesome when you have a stylist who knows what they are doing AND who takes care of your hair AND you vibe well together.

I've only had female stylists, but my current stylist (I've used her for many years) is very very good...I only go to her for touch-ups now, but I'm never disappointed when I leave her salon (and it's very affordable!). Things started falling apart when I went away to college...but it's cool because now I have the knowledge to take haircare into my own hands :yep:

The last stylist I went to did an awful job with layering my hair (in the front and in the back - she did a good job in the crown) What tripped me out is that when she got to the back she just stopped layering and gave me a blunt straight across cut - right above hair that is shaved. So, it looked like a bowl cut indeed :nono:

The very next day I went to Ray and he blended the back perfectly! He also re-cut my hair all over. I ended up with even shorter hair BUT I didn't even care because I was so happy to have a cut that I liked and was done right.

The next time I go to a stylist.. I think I'm choosing a male.

He's wonderful!!! I just started going to him earlier this year and I got a trim with my last relaxer, and he only trimmed, not cut!!! Before he started trimming I told him that I was skeptical b/c I only allowed a vietnamese lady trim my hair (she was the only one who listened to what I wanted). He did make the comment that I was just like his wife with the cutting/trimming aspect (He does her hair too). Also, the environment in his salon is amazing!(It's an Aveda focused salon) Oh, and he doesn't complain about the amount of new growth from my relaxer stretches. :yep:

When I di did go to a stylist. I minly looked for male stylist. The female stylist almost always messed up my hair

Female, but I've had both. My very first stylist who gave me my first relaxer was a male, and he was great. I'm ok with either gender -- it's more about their practices and the results.
