What I am REALLY to expect.

Ladies,

Just a thought I have been on this hair journey since Nov 04, I have had the breakage the big cut, the tears the protective styling, the 16 pills a day and the roots. Now I am at the point where I am 11 weeks post relaxer and getting a relaxer this Thursday, wanted to stretch to 12 but I just cant do it!
What I am to really expect ?, as I feel if I don’t see some significant improvement I may go back to old habits. My hair stayed the same length but it was always down and straight and it looked OK. The past few months I have to have it up due to the not been able to do anything because of all the ROOTS.
I have even rocked cornrows, I have not felt that good within my self. As ladies we all know ‘‘if your hair doesn’t look right you just don’t feel right’’
I would just rather know what I am going to expect than get my hopes up.

Sorry to sound so depressed but its been a rough journey for me !!

Please share your experiences whether good or bad !!

Thanks

Kizzy x

Cheer up sweetie. A lot of us has been where you are, I'm just coming out of that same place. I started doing my own relaxers a couple of years ago and had severe breakage to the nape and crown area. This was devastating cause my hair had reached collar bone which is the longest they've ever been. During this time I was practicing a lot of good hair habits (although still using heat regularly) however it wasn't enough to combat the chemical damage. Since I've started going back to my hairdresser and have been getting regular trims to cut off the damage ends the breakage and shedding has stopped, and my hair is not as dry. I'm not trying to make this about me but just letting you know that you are not alone.

It takes time and patience but you will reap the fruits of your labor. Good for you for having the guts to sacrifice length for the sake of healthy hair. Give yourself a pat on the back for stretching out your relaxer to 11 weeks, I'm at about 10 weeks myself and I know it aint easy (I'm rocking the cornrows as we speak). When you get your retouch you'll probably see the results of your hard work. Don't give up yet and please don't go back to the old habits that caused your hair to break. It will get better and as you learn more about YOUR hair and how to care for it you will develope a routine that works well for you and it won't seem as hard anymore. Good luck. Smile. Let us know how your retouch goes.

Thanks Crazy,

I am so glad to hear that someone else understands what I am going through. I cant speak to any of my friends or family as they just don’t understand, they think I am insane recently as they see what I have been doing with my hair.
I think it’s the not knowing what to expect that is really taking its toll, I have never put so much emphasis on my hair in my life.

Thanks for the encouragement and sharing your experience.

Make sure you come back and read this post on Friday, as I will update you on how my relaxer went.

I will be looking for your update. Remember to be patient, getting long and healthy hair is a process, and it's an especailly difficult process when you're battling damage hair but it will all be worth it someday.
