what really gives Ateya that swang?

I think it is genetics. her hair isn't coarse. she has the unique combination of having fine yet thick hair. Fine hair is the reason she can use so much protein and it not be such a problem.

I think its a combination of things:
  • her hair type
  • choice of hair products and treatments
  • light/no usage of products...(she says she hardly ever moisturises:ohwell:). Light usage of products can give the hair bounce/swang as the hair is not weighted down.
  • her use of heat, e.g: silkening with flat irons/curling irons
  • wrapping the hair to maintain body
  • etc...
Whatever it is, it might not even work for someone else. I know that I can't go without moisturising so long like she does if I want to see any progress and I can't use as much heat as she does because no matter how much moisture I put on my hair as it will just dry out.
Seems like her hair likes a lot of protein, but my hair likes A LOT of moisture!

I can get 'swang' with little product in my hair, heat and saran wrap, but its not 'good' for MY hair, so I'd rather go without the swang for the most part.

I definitely believe its the products and heat usage. If anyone goes to a salon and gets their DONE right, it'll swing. Hair type or not. You just have to get the right products and proper flatironing or rollersetting technique.

I'm not sure what it is. It is beautiful though. My hair use to swang like that back when I was using heat daily and only used Isoplus light Oil sheen. I caused heat damage in the long run though.

Imo it's not just one thing.

1) The amount of heat used
2) Her technique
3) Her HAIRCUT
4) The fact that she is also relaxed bone straight
5) Her individual TEXTURE
6) The products that she uses, the way she uses them and the way they work on HER hair

Also, I don't think I have ever seen a video where she had lots of NG.

:yep: Yup I noticed that too. I can't even wrap my hair after 7 weeks. Too much NG for me.

She relaxes every 8 weeks so her hair stays "fresh" all the time thus giving her that swang.

I get that salon swang up too until i am about 4-6 weeks post then u can forget it. The NG takes over.

When she said her hair was coarse i was like "nah, thats a piece of cake....coarse my arse..."

Yeah, I think it's the heat too. Great thing is she uses a decent ammount of protein. The other thing is she wears wigs frequently which protects her her hair. I love her vids. She has a great personality.

OT: You have some AMAZING progress there!

is it her products? all the heat? i've got a god amount of movement, but who couldn't use more! i havent found my staple products yet (still!), but i know if i used that much heat (idk how often she uses it) my hair would swang right off my head!:lachen:

I think she gets her swing because she only uses heat once a week when she washes. . In one of her tutorials she says she doesn't wear her hair out that much, she is in wigs alot to keep her hair protected from damage. She relaxes between 8-10 wks. Her latest vid was where she got a sew-in.

She has a nice cut too. I think that adds to her movement. I never knew her name or that she was discussed on LHCF, but I love her videos.

i think it's a combination of things that give her that 'swang'...the amount of heat, flatironing technique, and minimal products are a must in my opinion...i personally don't think that hair type has anything to do with it because i've seen natural 4zzzz hair straightened at a salon that results in swang as if they just had a relaxer...as long as the hair has little product--and the right product at that--and is flatironed from root to tip on high heat it will swang like that...oh yeah by the way, i don't necessarily agree with everything she does but i definitely enjoy watching her videos--she just seems so down to earth...

um - yea - I was going to add this and I know daggers might get thrown at me, but some if not most of us on here ain't really cuttin in order for us to retain length, I mean we dustin and trimmin--- not sayin you can't get swang without a cut, but whenver all your hair is cut even to a certain length whatever that length may be, the heaviness of the hair falling at that length will enhance the swang. I know for a fact , because the last time when when I cut my hair, I had the bulk of the bottom hair even and the rest was layered, and my hair moved lovely. Now my hair hardly moves although without all the products, it feels light.

Ateya may be on a mission for long hair, but doesn't appear to be preoccupied with it as she is having fun with all the wigs and weaves and get instantaneous long looks with those that look fabulous, she also isn't afraid to go get a trim when she knows she needs it unlike -- "me" which contributes to healthy lookin swangin hair. lol

^^ So true! You know, I love her videos! I sent her a message back and forth a few times, and she is such a sweetheart - and sooo helpful :yep: She replied to my messages very quickly. After being on LHCF for years, I was finally able to get the swang! I have been in pursuit of the swang for YEARS. I went out and purchased the Aphogee products and have been using them consistently. My hair loves protein! Who would have thought?! LOL. I have always been scared to use protein because it would leave my hair dry and crunchy. For some reason, the Aphogee line works for me. My hair looks and feels sooo silky. My hair is even bouncy after it has airdried  I get lots of compliments on my hair now :yay:

I think she's pretty and really funny - her hair is beautiful. I was reading the "think you're white" thread earlier, and have to say I'm rather astounded by some of the comments here. She can't really have black hair because, why exactly? She obviously knows what's she doing when it comes to taking care of her hair whether she uses heat or whatever. Give the girl her props even if you don't agree with her regime.

dang where this thread come from lol

ya know, i was wonderin to myself the other day...do you think she's "heat trained"? bone straight relaxed hair with lots of heat every week, sounds like she's got some 1b goin on up there. just a thought.

So what kind of cut do i have to get:grin:

i got her youtube channel from a closed thread lol and i was very impressed she is a lot of fun to watch and her hair is just beautiful!!

It is the heat.
Usually I straighten my hair by rollersetting and flat ironing. I have movement but not swang, per se
Two days ago, I used a blow dryer and pressing comb. My hair is swanging like a horsetail!!! Whoo hoo!!!! About to break my neck! Hair looks a tad thinner than I like though
I would do this on a regular basis but it would definately be a special occasion do.

I don't think she applies oils or serums after is dry.....

She flat irons then wraps it. Plus, it's the good products she uses. Chi Silk Infusion and Green Tea Keratin from Aphogee.
