Hello Ladies!
I will be stretching my relaxer a little longer than I expected to. Can u tell me what products or procedures keep your new growth soft and manageable? My hair is shedding a little more now, but I want to cut down on that as well as tangling. I'm trying to make it to brastrap. For me it is tougher to go more than 13 weeks without retouching. I don't want to ruin my progress. ALL suggestions are welcome:)

I can't give specific products because what works for me might not work for you... I can give suggestions of methods though :-)
Less Manipulation, trying to comb your hair only when wet and saturated in a moisturising conditioner, cowashing (to help soften new growth), Deep conditioning (make sure you get the moisture/protein balance right), low manipulation styles (updos, braidouts, twistouts), keep hair moisturised....

In addition to what's been mentioned, I like to use ORS Carrot oil on my ng. Keeps it soooo soft, moist, and smooth. Carrot oil also helps keep shedding & breakage at bay :whip:

I'm getting a retouch tomorrow (3/28/2009) :yay: at 18 weeks post and no product helped me. What did help was detangling with fingers only then follow lightly with a shower comb. :yep:

I am sure to do no combing and lots of bunning and rollersets during this time. I can't go past 9 weeks or my hair pops lot crazy at the root. I like Scurl to help me stay moisturized and "slick", NTM Silk Touch leave in condish also helps. I find a lot less shedding with very little manipulation and moisture, moisture, moisture.

HTH!

How do you normally wear your hair? If I wear it up (bun, ponytail, braid- out) I use Rusk Smoother Leave-in Conditioner. If I am wearing it straight, I flat iron with the Ojon Restorative Treatment. I am currently 20 weeks post (I'm stuck on the fence between transitioning or tex-laxing again)

Stretch to 12 weeks for the first time and Motions Moisture Plus was the reason. I was surprised at how soft it made my hair feel and it last all week.

Moisturizing DC and co washing. You need conditioners with slip and very moisturizing. Protect protect protect the ends.

I am no help lol cause i have to braid up to stretch cause i lose hair but until i braid up i use roller sets and hair butters /deepcon keep my hair moisturizer and protein treatment to keep breakage a way. my head like to be left alone when i stretch lol

I have been wearing my hair either in a french twist or two braids since January. I am doing the Deep Conditioning Challenge--this has helped me alot. I just want to keep the line of demarcation strong. My hair is growing FAST!

I'm happy too, I'm getting my hair done on Sun......i'm so happy, and no products helped me neither......so I just tried my best not to get too much shedding......:yep:

Yes, conditioner washes, weekly deep conditioning with my heat cap, ORS Carrot cream, Denman brush, finger detangling, NEXXUS leave in and I've revisited GARNIER LEAVE-IN which helps keep my twists fluffy and not stringy flat.

After eight weeks post I use Silicon Mix to deep conditioner and do co washes and using Sta So Fro as a Moisturizer.

Im currently at 6 months post and have 6 months to go and my wigs and cornrows underneath is helping alot. I DC with Silk Elements Mega Cholesterol and ORS Rplenishing Pak(rotating Weekly) I moisturized very well maybe a little to much. Im hoping to get good growth

In my spritz bottle, I have:

1. Aphogee Pro-Vitamin Leave-In
2. Aloe Vera Juice
3. S-Curl Moisturizer
4. Rose Water
5. Water

Spray my NG and massage it. The comb just glides through! Amazing!! Finally, something that helps me detangle, losing little to no hair. :)

I'm coming up on 18 weeks post-relaxer. I have six more weeks to go!

During this last stretch to 9 weeks, I mixed olive oil with my DC to get extra slip. I also used the Mizhani Nighttime treament and sealed with olive oil daily. My hair was much more manageable compared to other stretches.

My last touch up was 01/10/09 and I'm trying to stretch until 05/10/09. (4month stretch- 1st time ever). Right now I have been just keeping it simple. I use MT on the scalp and NG overnight everyother night and co wash in the morning with V05 Moisturizin Con. Rinse. Apply Silicon Mix in the shower. Use a large tooth comb to seperate the hairs and rinse again. I've been wearing a pony so while in the shower, I'll reapply a little con and oil to seal. Gather the hair pin in a pony or bun it and tie a scarf around it. However it looks with the scarf off is what you get. LOL...It works for me.

Redken Real Control Shampoo & Conditioner. It softens and detangles my new growth like nothing else. I do six months stretches and am considering going a little longer this time (last relaxer was March 5th). I can't be without Real Control for stretches.

it's not a product but my sedu flat iron really helps me stretch my relaxers it's gets my new growth straighter than any other flatiron hope that helps

I'm 14 weeks into my 18+ week stretch. Co washing, moisturizing my new growth and detangling in the shower slathered in conditioner has been whats working for me. Moisture, Moisture, Moisture and be sure to monitor your protein moisture balance.

I've been doing roller sets (bonnet dryer), bunning, braid outs, air drying with the hair loose, airdrying using the ponytail method and today I am airdrying in a ponytail roller set. I'm new at stretching but so far so good. I normally don't go longer than 10 weeks, at first I didn't think I'd make it but now I'm sure I will.

Do a search on the board for stretching there is tons of information out there that will help you out.

Mizani thermasmooth system + flat iron when i want a straight / pressed look
I shampoo, DC with my steamer for 30 mns and then blow dry with my chi blow dryer using the thermasmooth leave in serum. After this, my roots and hair are really straight, but I go a step further and press with my FHI flat iron.

For textured look:
Flexirods with Hawaiian silky 14 in 1 as leave in

Sometimes if I don't want to deal with it I will just go get a Dominican Blowout (roots only) or go to someone who specializes in natural hair (i.e Too Groovy salon) for anything more than 10 wks. I've also let the walmart salons blow dry it for less than $18 and then i flat iron when i get home. You'd be amazed at how straight they can get your hair. I try to do 12-16 wk stretches.
