Really enjoyed this combo for moisture and hubby said my hair smells great. Camellia oil is a new one but I am loving it so far, dare I say more than argan oil…. Argan oil feels nice but it does have a light scent that starts to smell not that great. Not horrible but not preferable.

  1. Bottled water in a mister to lightly mist
  2. Remaining Kerastase overnight + redken overnight serum
  3. Camellia oil (100%) - it’s completely deodorized
  4. Kerastase oil
 
I've used my homemade spritz: Distilled water, aloe juice, glycerin, grapeseed oil. I think I forgot to add the vitamin e oil, but it's doing great thus far. I'm on holiday, hair's braided, I'm spraying all over, including roots and braid length. I'll be away for a few more days, enjoying the sun
 
Hair is feeling really nice this morning. I think contributing factors to that is 1. Using heat to dry my hair, I think my ends always feel better with heat than without (revair blow dryer) 2. Moroccanoil split end mender felt good topped with the absolu gloss once my hair was dry 3. My unfortunately expensive, best dc really does do a great job, rotating between this and Redken abc is really making my hair feel good and I am shocked at the lack of detangling issues at like 7 months post.

I did also use the Aphogee yesterday before light shampooing and I think that’s a great place to use it on the days I don’t hot oil.
And I used a new heat protectant (oribe aerosol based heat protectant). It made my hair feel nice and smells good but it was such a pita to use. I will say I like the feeling of my hair with oribe dry heat protection over Moroccanoil dry heat protectant. The Moroccanoil one wasn’t as conditioning and oribe felt like a soft powdery film in a good way.

I tried the L’Oréal wonder water and it did not meet my expectations at all. It legit felt like I bought an 8$ bottle of water for my head :-/ will not repurchase. It’s supposed to be a dupe for the Kerastase version and it absolutely isn’t. It’s way too watered down to resemble it.

Glosses are not really a necessary product but I would use it on a day I’m going out / special occasion or something

How are you liking the Redken overnight serum? I was going to pick it up today but I thought that I would do some more research before I buy it.
 
For a stretched twist out:

Cowashed and detangled hair: The Doux One Love cowash
Cleansed scalp: Doux No Scrubs exfoliating shampoo
Deep conditioned because hair at scalp was squeaky clean: Alba's DermaE mask
Hydrated with conditioner: Bath and Body Works Gingham Gorgeous Moisturizing Conditioner (smells divine)
Installed 7 twists on each half: Curl Dynasty's Twisted Definition

I finally made a moisture spritz for my braids. This time I switched the formulation.

2/3 Aloe vera juice
1/3 distilled water
2 drops of Grapeseed oil
A drop of Vitamin E oil (I forgot to add this the last time)
A drop of glycerin

I've just sprayed up the roots and length, this feels very moisturising, it's ever so slightly heavier because of the Vitamin E oil, bubusy far I like it. Will need to see how my hair feels by tomorrow to have a true comparison.

Prepoo and detangle: Derma E mask
Cleanse: Doux No Scrubs Wash-and-Go Collection Exfoliating Shampoo
Condition (treat): Doux That's Deep Wash-and-Go Collection Deep Conditioner
Condition (hydrate): Gingham Gorgeous Bath and Body Works conditioner
Condition (moisturize): As I Am Bond Leave-in Conditioner
Style: Mielle Kalahari Melon & Aloe Vera Curl Forming Glaze
Style: Innersense I Create Hold gel

Veerrrrry moisturized, defined, and shrunken. The scent of the Mielle is nice and is detectable next day, but during application I started feeling sick from its intensity. This wng reminds me of that slick-back wng that trended on YouTube 5 or 10 years ago.

Hi!
Everyone's hair is very unique, so what's going on with my hair may or may not help. However, I don't mind answering your questions at all.
Q: Do you air dry, diffuse or use a hood dryer?
A: I either diffuse or use a standing hooded dryer. I prefer to diffuse because it allows me to stretch my hair and it's faster. If I am working on a project or studying, I'll sit under the hooded dryer. When I do that, my wash-and-go looks much shorter. If I try to stretch my hair after it's already been dried, I don't really get much stretch and it just shrinks right back up.​
Q: Does the gel leave a hard cast?
A:​
(1) When I do a MOUSSE/FOAM wash-and-go (I use The Doux Crazy Sexy Curl), then I don't get a hard cast. This wash-and-go will last me 2-3 days.​
(2) When I do a GEL wash-and-go, I use gels that leave a hard cast, and I purposely don't break the cast. This is because I want my wash-and-go's to last as long as possible. I have very fine hair, and every time I detangle it, I risk mechanical damage and breakage. So the longer my wash-and-go's last, the fewer times I have to detangle my hair, and the more hair I retain over the long run.​

Combinations I've been using repeatedly for my gel wash-and-go's include:​
(1) Ecoslay Jello Shot gel over The Doux Crazy Sexy Curl​
(2) Innersense I Create Hold over The Doux Crazy Sexy Curl​
(3) Ecoslay alone​
(4) I Create Hold alone​
Q: Do you get any flaking?
A: I hardly ever get any flaking. If I do, it's when I am too heavy handed with one of the combos above.

Other information that might be helpful:
  • I have 4b hair that is very dense (lots of hair strands) and very fine (each individual strand is very thin). I use to have highly porous hair, but now I think my hair has normal porosity (neither low nor high).
  • I was a straight-haired natural for a few years, thus my curl pattern in the picture is looser than it otherwise would be. I used to worry about this, but I have come to not care about this, LOL. I really enjoy wearing my flat-ironed hair. It's mid-back-length and eeeeeaaaaaasy to care for. So I'm not going to lie to myself and say I will stop flat ironing my hair for the sake of not loosening my curl pattern. I'm going to be flat ironing my hair for special occasions, when I need a break from doing my natural hair, etc.
  • When I apply styling product to my hair, I brush it through my hair with a "finger smoothing and detangling brush" such as the one shown below.

Q: How do you maintain or revive your curls?
A: I mainly use The Doux Crazy Sexy Curl to revive my curls. I love that product. Overnight I wear a hair sock to preserve my hair.

ONE HUGE KEY TO MASTERING MY WASH-AND-GO:
For my curl pattern, I will not have a great wash-and-go if my hair is not already "defined" before I apply gel. Meaning, however my how looks BEFORE gel is applied is going to strongly affect how it looks because gel doesn't deeply define MY hair. It might deeply define OTHER people's hair, but not mine.

What deeply defines MY hair is (1) proper protein-moisture balance, (2) deep conditioning, and (3) hydration (via saturating my hair with CONDITIONER [not deep conditioner nor leave-in] and then repeatedly flashing my hair under the shower water and squishing water into my strands).

To hydrate, I divide my hair in half and then each half into 3 sections for a total of 6 sections. I then "hydrate-by-repeatedly-squishing-water-into-conditioner-saturated-hair," section by section. I then rinse my hair in as-cool-as-I-can-stand water to close my hair cuticles to trap the water inside. Next, I apply a leave-in to each half of my hair, squishing after just one flash of cool water to help spread the leave-in throughout my dense hair. At this point, my hair is super defined. Gel simply gels this definition. Gel does not create too much more definition for MY hair. Before gel is applied, foam can help me get some additional definition, particularly when my hair is not well-defined.

ANOTHER HUGE KEY TO MASTERING MY WASH-AND-GO WAS TO LEARN THAT ONCE MY HAIR IS GELLED, I NEED TO PLACE MOST OF MY HAIR GOING/FALLING BACK BEFORE I DRY IT. I DO TAKE OUT A LITTLE HAIR AT THE FRONT, ON THE LEFT AND RIGHT, TO GO FORWARD. I ALSO TAKE OUT A LITTLE HAIR (FROM THE HAIR GOING BACK) THAT IS ON THE SIDES, AND I LET IT FALL TO THE LEFT AND RIGHT SIDES THE WAY I WANT MY HAIR TO LOOK.

AFTER MY HAIR HAS DRIED LIKE THAT, MY HAIR KIND OF NATURALLY FALLS TO THE SIDES AND FALLS FORWARD. IF I DON'T START OUT WITH MOST OF MY HAIR DRYING TOWARD THE BACK, THEN I DON'T END UP LIKING MY WASH-AND-GO. THIS MADE ME THINK I DIDN'T LIKE WASH-AND-GO'S. I STUMBLED UPON THIS KNOWLEDGE AFTER WATCHING A VIDEO ABOUT HAIR PLACEMENT DURING WASH-AND-GO'S. IF I FIND IT, I'LL TRY TO REMEMBER TO SHARE IT WITH YOU.

My next goal is to learn how to do a little more with my wash-and-go by adding styling to it. The video below shows some styling:



I hope this helps even a little! Please let me know if I can answer anything else. It took me a very long time to master my wash and go. My advice is to HAVE FUN practicing. Journal on exactly what you do and rate the result. After some months you'll know what techniques give you hair you love. If an attempt fails, (a) I thank God I have hair and the means to care for it and to learn to style it, (b) ponytail or bun it, and (c) keep it moving! [heart]
