What kinda tomfoolery....?!?!?

Okay, I can admit to that. But it's not like everyday is a good hair day for folks even with *that* hair. They can have can and bad hair days, too. I still think it's a weird response to "what do you use?"

Bingo!!! That's what raised an eyebrow. OP didn't ask her what she was mixed with...she was trying to find out what she mixed on her head to get some results.

wow people are a mess with their head-up-their-assness. sorry that happened to ya OP but next i think when an ole girl said to me: "i'm mixed" I'd have responded by saying: "oh yeah, really? what a coincidence, so am i". :ohwell:

that would've thrown her for a triple axle or two. :spinning:

Tom foolery. I thought I was the only one that still said that!:lachen: But hey, don't hate on her(being sarcastic). She gave me an idea. Whenever I get a compliment on my afro hair or asked what do I put on it, I'll reply " It's a black thang...."

I wish you would have said, "Oh, so am I but I'm referring to the shininess of your hair". I would have said that even though I don't look like a stereotypical mixed person.

Well snap, I'm mixed too. My Mother's father's sister's 3rd cousin by her uncle's sister's daughter's father on his Mother's side was mixed, so you know I's got some in me!

Now I have words:
It's like you can tell how this girl was raised just from her response. I've known the type now that I think of it.

I can just picture some "mixed" kid getting all the praise from the adults at every gathering and people always telling her she has good hair and complimenting how pretty she is (always adding in that she's got Spanish in her or that her daddy's white or whatever). Probably accepts it as fact that she's pretty because she's mixed or her hair is pretty because she's mixed. If people compliment her she knows it has something to do with her not being all black.:look:
This is so true. This is how people get their heads so far up their a$$.

i would have said, "Oh so am I, soooo do you put anything special in it?"

The heyall! :lachen:

(no, I'm no bi-racial)

She probably was thinking that too. What a shame.

I agree with the other ladies in saying that my reply to her would have been, "Oh, really, me too." Of course, I would add, "but by looking at you I couldn't tell." (Even if its not true). Being mixed obviously makes her feel superior, so by letting her think that its not readily apparent, it checks her ego.

i encounter this all the time. ii even have a friend who takes pride in the fact that pple thinks shes mixed because of her long hair:nono:.
her comment showed that she needs help. everyone please close your eyes and say a prayer for her lost soul

I second that...poor thing. I have a relative who is bi-racial and was told her whole life that she was "pretty", and that would get her places (in so many words). She was taught NOTHING else. Well the "pretty" didn't last long after she learned the hard way that there were millions of other "pretty" girls out in the world just like her, and some men don't care what you look like as long as he can get in your pants. Now, 4 kids, 4 baby daddies and no husband or life later, reality has set in. I feel sorry for that girl, hopefully she won't learn the hard way that being "mixed" doesn't make you prettier, better, more desirable, etc, when there is nothing in your head but ignorance and superficiality. :perplexed:

Lemme tell you what happened about 20 minutes ago.

I walked over to an adjacent building to grab a latte. A girl came in line behind me and she had GORGEOUS thick lush hair, somewhere between APL and BSL. It looked like her ends may have just been trimmed because they were super blunt. Shiny healthy, etcetc. So my overly friendly behind goes,

'Hi! Your hair is so pretty!' :D :D :D :D <~ this is me, smilin like a nutbag

She flips it. 'Thanks.'

(Now I ain't mad at the flip at ALL. Cuz as I've said before, when I hit my goal, they gonna call me BobbleHead from all the swangin Imma be doin. :yep:)

I said (and maybe this is where I made my mistake?), 'Do you use anything special on it?'

She said, 'Oh, I'm mixed.' And proceeded to look at the menu.

I'm so dumbfounded. I don't even really know what to think. I guess if I asked specifically about her texture, then I could maybe possibly understand her giving an explanation as to her heritage. But I asked if she used anything special on it. :scratchch

Maybe she thought I meant something about her texture (even tho I didn't say the word texture.. :look: ) which is why she responded that way? She had her hair blown out straight, but from her features you could tell that she was bi/multi racial. That was something I knew off rip, so that wasn't what caught my attention. My attention was piqued by the *bling* of her hair, how healthy it looked. :yep: I was just tryin to get the name of a product, yo.....

I dunno. I guess it just caught me off guard. It brings me back to that 'good hair v. bad hair' debate, which I hate because hair is hair is hair, it's gonna do what it does. Healthy hair is beautiful regardless, imho anyway.

Whew. Lemme sip dis here latte and keep it movin..... :D

WHOA. I guess she was letting the jigaboos know......

How sad.....

( Of Course I am only saying this in terms of HER thinking.... this in not my assesment of ANYONE!)

I must say - I am stunned. I hope my niece or NEVER says anything like that.

Or her ignant ass would prolly take it as she looks totally white and then she would really think she was all dat lol.

WOW..this is soo sad

Her response tells me that she really meant this:
"OOOh poor black girl, can't you see, I've got that GOOD hair ....so I don't have to USE anything special..and whatever I used would not get your napps gorgeous like mine anyway..... I know that you wish you had my hair...oh well...gotta go hop on my high horse... smooches!"

My jaw would have hit the floor if she responded to my question like that....it's a shame

If someone asked me this question who had a totally different texture than me, I would be flattered (not cocky) and if I had the time I would tell them some of what I use but inform them that everything does not work for everybody.....this way the person has an idea of what I use but they are aware that their hair may not respond the same way....

Honestly she's only that way b/c she was probably worshipped all her life and she probably comes across countless black women fawning over her hair all the time, saying that they wish they had her hair

We all have to get enlightened --not just women like her--it's the women w/ the so-called good hair and the women who sweat them that have to change their outlook!!

BUT Cockiness is never cute I don't care how often you've been fawned over and how long & silky your mane is.....

 This IS true!!!!! She prolly sensed that I'm not the type to nut up which is why she felt so comfy replying that way. If I had been all rough and tough and in her grill, she prolly woulda' been like, 'Oh I shampoo with aloe vera mist, deep condition with lily bark and moisturize with pixie dust. Matter of fact, I have some extra pixie dust in my knapsack, would you like some?? Imma go buy you the whole line, meet me back here at three.....'

:lachen::lachen::lachen::lachen::lachen::lachen::lachen::lachen::grin:

Honestly, lots of people believe that "mixed" people have an advantage when it comes to growing hair. Even they themselves believe it.

The only reason that I never fell into that is because I know a few mixed women (one from high school and a few in my own family) who look almost white but have 4 a/b hair texture. My niece, who is 15 now, tries to emulate her mother's hair routine (her mom is full white) but my niece has 4 a/b hair so those products just don't work for her at all. Her mom never learned to do her hair and would always send us photos (from Texas) with the child's hair looking a hot mess.

She lived with us for a while (mom in the military and went off to war) and we finally got her a decent hair routine. Hopefully for her next set of school photos her hair will not look a mess.

To quote A-Rab: "Get up out my face, ya doo-doo head dummy"

But, can you blame here? How many of us before LHCF knew that "good" hair was prettier than nappy hair?
