What kind of wig is this?

and where can I get one? I had no idea this was a wig. I thought it was just a sew in. Most wigs are really bulky in the front, but this one is thin in front so you can blend your hair in with it. Hmm... Where can i get one?

I'm not a hair expert, but I think this is a lace front wig. I believe one place where you can order these type of wigs is myindianhair.com. Some of the other ladies on this board may know more about it though. Hope this helps.

Without a doubt that is a lacefront wig.. Those are specially made,, they can range from any where from 150 to 2000 to be made for a person depending on the specs.. The only bad side to those wigs is that they are glued down.. As for purchasing them their are several places u can go online such as ebay.. First thing i suggest doing is research it to see if it is something you would reall want..

To me it looks like a half wig, if you look closely at the hairline it looks a totally different texture and it does not run together with the rest of the wig. It looks like it is sittin on her head.

I agree 100%

Totally. You can see where the wig begins just a wee bit above the actual hairline.

I agree. This is "star hair" and they don't look the same in real life. It's not a 1/2 wig or a piece. Tyra Banks is the queen of the lacefronts.
Check out this website: http://www.celebritylacefrontwigs.com/

It's perfect for tv and pictures.

It looks like a monofilament top wig to me. Not a lacefront and not a half wig. I don't know of any half wigs that have a part like that. It's not a lacefront b/c you can see her real hair peeking out at the hairline. It's a bad one, though, whatever it is. Well, bad one by celebrity standards. By my humble standards, it would be kind of nice.
ETA, that wig looks almost identical to this one. It's Motown Tress and called "Kyna". Also, I would stay away from "myindianhair" for lacefronts. People have had problems.
OK, for some reason, I can't paste, but here's the link: http://www.thewigs.com/view_detail.asp?indx=1444
ETA "again"! I don't even think her wig is a monotop. I think it is just a plain old wig. Maybe that's a pic from when she first started wearing them, before she was introduced to the wonderful world of lacefronts. It's definitely not a lacefront, though.Anywho, the Motown Tress wig is similar enough and under $35 if you want to copy the look. It's funny how she tried to part her own hair to match the part of the wig :)

Maybe you don't know this, but the woman who owned myindianhair.com, was killed about a week ago, so that company is no longer in operation. Just thought I'd let you know.

I TOTALLY AGREE! That is not a lace fornt. Its sitting up off her head like a swimming cap! But Bey still looks awesome!

yea. i don't think it's a lace front. Her hair is sticking out in the front to blend with the wig. It's not glued down. I didn't think half wigs came that close to your hair line. I wonder where you can get one of these kind from

That's what's it's called! I couldn't think of it for the life of me. Monofilament wig. Ashanti had one with a part in it, but she didn't leave any of her hair out at the front. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

a few days later she was wearing the same wig, but i think she turned it to the side a little because she had a side part lol.

I think that definately looks like a monofilament wig than a lace front. I have a few that I used to wear as a protective style before I started wearing my own hair out.

OK, I don't know WHAT it is now b/c I was crusing a website looking at pics of Bey when I saw this one, thinking it was one of her usual lacefront specials:

Then I came across this picture:

Well, there is is again, the mystery hairpiece. I am no weave expert by any stretch--I've never had a sew in, but don't they make monofilament skin tops that you can glue to your hair? So, looking at this pic that makes me think that's what it is again. There are other pics of her from this set where the top looks sort of "lumpy" and if it was a wig or lacefront, it shouldn't look lumpy, right? But if it was a weave glued over plaits or cornrows it might, huh?
Well, at any rate this is a 'do that looks better and more natural farther away. I would love to see Bey's closet of wigs and weaves. She must have an entire closet devoted to just that!

a lace front is probably what it is imho because the hair goes to the edge and it is flat

a mono top will be a cheaper alternative sometimes it has a bit of a bump

That is soo the look I want for this summer but in red. Anyone please tell me what this is so I can buy one quickly. :)

I am still trying to figure this out...

Bellydancer, is this the picture you were talking about?
soho04.jpg

I found this one. It's from 2004. Her hair even looks kind of nappy there. Her real hair, I mean. But it is cute. I like how she managed to have her hairline out and still wear the wig. I want one now too! I think this is the same wig that we've seen in all the pics in this thread but to me that first pic looked sooo unflattering.

To answer your question of where you can get one, I saw this online after doing a search... for the bargain price of $810 you too can have a mono wig! I think Bey has hers custom made, though. And whomeveris doing it even put in dark roots to really make it look like it was her own hair. Clever!

At any rate, I still say go w/a lacefront if you want that look b/c then you could put the part wherever you wanted WITHOUT movign the wig, like Beyonce! . There is a lacefront forum on BHM. There are some chinese vendors selling them custom-made for under $200.They *may* be able to make you a monofilament wig, I'm not sure though. You could ask. You can find their email addys on BHM too.

Would not a wig like this one by NewHair from especiallyyours.com not work?

They had other wigs with center parts but this was the closest I could find using a model with straight roots.

Y'all arent' going to believe this, but I just found a wig like this, IN MY OWN DRAWER!!! OK, let me backup. It is not straight like Bey's but it does have a part, and yes it can be put to the side. It has large curls and is cut in layers. I bought it years ago, never wore it, colored my hair and it didnt' match, etc. But now it matches perfectly (it's a 2). My only critique is that the "scalp" coloring is kind of a gray. Why couldn't they have made it brown to look more natural? I only paid $28.99 for it so it's not a monotop, but it works well enough. Waht I did was left only 1/2" of my hairline out, parted it to match up with the wig part, and put the wig on. You can't tell it's not my hair or my part unless you look *very* closely. I mean, I had a difficult time telling myself looking in the mirror. I had to get way up close to the mirror to see. But again, it probably wouldn't been completely unnoticeable if they would've had the scalp part brown.

I went to a BSS and saw some Beverly Johnson wigs like this but again they are the gray color. But again, it is not that noticeable and still look at Bey; she's a celeb being photographed and she's rocking it so we could too! The only thing is it is so hot down here and the wig feels kind of hot plus I work tomorrow and I need to "field test" it when not working to make sure no mishaps occur before actually wearing it to work, but there ya go!

ETA: it's called a "synthetic skin top"

Yes it can. This is an Omega Part wig, so more of her hair is out. There is a hole in the area where her part is, so the part and surrouding hair are the model's own hair and scalp. I guess it just depends on your hair length and texture. If you were natural but didn't want to straighten, it wouldn't work. Basically, I think we've proven in this thread that to get Beyonce's look from the first picture that Bellydancer posted, there are a variety of ways to do it. They are, from least to most expensive:

1.You can get a synthetic wig with a permanent part premade into the wig.
2.You can buy a synthetic wig with a skin top
3.You can buy a synthetic (or human) omega part wig and use your own hair to make the part
4.You can buy a synthetic (or human) wig with a mono top
5.You can buy a lacefront wig

Options #1 and 5 (and possibly 2 and 4) would not use any of your own hair for the style. Options #3 (and possibly 2 and 4, if you wanted to do it like Bey did) would need at least some of your hair worn out for the style.
