What kind of Satin is your satin?

Boy oh boy, I did not realize that satin is not a kind of fabric but rather a sort of weaving technique. Polyester. Nylon. Acetate. Rayon. Do you know what kind of satin your cap/pillowcase/wrap is? Do you think it makes a difference or do you not even notice?

Most of all 'silky' head scarves, pillow cases are made from polyester. I have yet to buy a 100% satin/silk scarf.

You know, this has always puzzled me. I had a "satin" dress when I was about 14 that felt nothing like the "satin" head scarf I wore. And my "satin" bonnet/scarf is 100% polyester. The weave explains why the polyester scarf (that stretches) can be deemed satin and so can a dress (with no stretch). Go figure?!?!

I'm not really noticing a difference, but I will pay more attention.

Satin is a weave that typically has a glossy surface and a dull back. It is a warp-dominated weaving technique that forms a minimum number of interlacings in a fabric. Some definitions insist that the fabric is made from silk.[1] If a fabric is formed with a satin weave using filament fibres such as silk, nylon, or polyester, the corresponding fabric is termed a satin. If the yarns used are short-staple yarns such as cotton, the fabric formed is considered a sateen.

A satin-woven fabric tends to have a high luster due to the high number of floats on the fabric. Floats are missed interlacings, where the warp yarn lies on top of the weft yarn, or vice versa. The floats tend to make the fabric look glossier as well as give it a smoother surface.

Not sure how to bold, but I think the part about a smoother surface is why satin is good for our hair. Satin should not pull at the hair.
I knew my satin bonnet wasn't silk because silk tends to cost more than the $3 max I pay for my bonnet.

I didn't know until I started sewing a few years ago. I have silk scarves though. Satin pillow cases (poly or nylon)

Do you prefer to use a silk scarf to sleep in? I don't think I've ever tried silk.

Most of my scarves are colorful silk. My bonnets are satin.
I like silk the best and I can use them on my hair, around my waist, around my purse. All sorts of fun ways.

Yes satin is really just polyester which is just modified plastic. Yes 100% plastic! Silk is better 100% natural made of amino acids. Been used for centuries to keep hair healthy, grow longer & more http://www.essenceofsilk.com has the best products of silk & satin.

Satin can be of polyester but it is not a type of fabric it is a type of weft, the way in which it is weaved. It is not a fabric in itself.

I went into my sewing books LOL, I am giving my son sewing lessons as we speak.

Satin: this term refers to a Fabrics Weave. Satin can be made of cotton, silk, synthetic fibers and blends. Many types of satin fabrics are used on both clothing and home furnishing, but all hae a distinct shiny appearance because of the way the fabric is woven. :)
