Hey Ladies,

Please help.....I'm trying to tweak my regimen and need some suggestions.

What is your regimen from one week before, day of relaxer and one week after? And what products do you use?

One week before relaxer: keep hair more moisturized with oils, avoid excessive combing, wear more protective styles like rollersets or braid outs where the new growth isnt as noticeable. Avoid scratching and massaging. Do not shampoo a week before either.

Day of relaxer: I sometimes put vaseline on my scalp before applying the relaxer to avoid burning. I use Elasta QP and after the relaxer, I shampoo several times with a neutralizing shampoo (I use Motions). Then I condition my hair (I use Suave Coconut Conditioner and after washing it out, I put Motions Nourish Leave-in).

One week after: Wash hair every 1-2weeks with Herbal Essence (I am about to switch to Creme of Nature). I continue conditioning. I wear any style I want.

Also, I used to get a relaxer every 4-6 weeks but now I'm changing to 2-4 months for a while and then 4-6 months when I learn how to manage my hair well with new growth. It is said that for those who relax their hair, the longer you wait to get one, the better:)

one week before Relaxer I am usually taking out my cornrows that I put in on my 9th or 10th week, I shampoo, moisturize and wear my hair in a drawstring ponytail until relaxer day

Day of Relaxer-I dont moisturize, try not to comb as often, grease my scalp with doo gro anti itch grease and I am good to go for another 12 weeks before I do this again

One week before relaxing I try not to wash my hair anymore.
On the day I apply the relaxer I just take my hair down and apply the relaxer (I put Motions Oil Moisturizing Silk Protein Conditioner on the length of my hair for protection). Then I just apply the relaxer.

The days after relaxing I do conditioner washes (especially in the summer) and I do lots of airdrying, moisturizing and oiling my hair.
