I got me some of this because I did not want to use the color. I mixed mine with so evoo and some warm water. I put the evoo in first and it turns out creamy as soon as I put the warm water in it gets thick and pasty like. and when I it in my hair its like glue. When I wash it out it leaves these specks in my hair like tiny rocks. Is that normal????????

The first time I did a hennalucent treatment, mine came out kind of pasty. The second time I did a hennalucent treatment, it came out great. I mixed mine with hot water and olive oil. The consistency was like conditioner. It spread nicely on my hair, and it didn't leave any specks behind after I rinsed it out. Try using hot water next time (for me, it made a huge difference).

I am scared to death to try that product. I gave up all chemicals three years ago and I'm not sure if hennalucent is anything like those drying hair dyes. I'm afraid!

Hennalucent isn't drying on my hair (at all).

what exactly does it do? Isn't it a hair dye? i kno they have a clear one. I think that's the one a lot of people use.

* Enhances shine and condition of hair
* Helps manage tangles and smooth split ends

BTW, I use the neutral one (clear).

How often does this treatment need to be repeated and is it costly? What kind of color do you get if you use the color one?

Oh great then. Could you descirbe how the package looks or anything so that I would be sure to buy the right thing? The only thing I found on the website was this:

Ardell Hennalucent Semi-Permanent Hair Color and Conditioner

Is that right?

soslychic,

If you go to the Sally Beauty Supply web site and do a search you can see a picture of it.

Thanks Allandra. That's what I originally did. I just wanted to make sure this was the product that you were referring too.

I do this on my hair every 6 weeks.

The cost at Sally Beauty Supply is about $4 a box.

Allandra...how do you time your hennalucent treatments in relation to your relaxers? Do you give your hair a certain amount of time? The reason I asked is because I'm thinking about trying Hennalucent, but I'm getting a relaxer in 2 weeks. Would that be smart or should I wait several weeks after my relaxer?

TIA,
Jen

I read in another post that once you start using this you can't stop and then you can no longer use some type of dye. Is this true and what type of dye can't you use after using this? (I am not sure if the poster meant you can't stop or you just can't switch).

I get relaxer touch-ups every four months. It may be best to do it after you get a relaxer since you're getting one in two weeks.

I have not heard of this. Then again, I don't plan on using any color / dye in my hair.

I've read that with henna, if you color your hair with some other type of dye, it MAY give you some off the wall unexpected results (depends on the person). However, pure Henna is a permanent dye. Hennalucent is a semi-permanent, so I don't think that holds true for it.

hi. i posted the "once you start.." on the other thread. earth brown turned my hair jet black. i was going for a crayola brown color, not black. so i bought the natural instincts haircolor (level 2)-lasts thru 24 washes. it has little hydrogen peroxide and no ammonia, but when i called the 800 number (just to be safe), they said their product is not compatible with henna (and hennalucent as we all know has henna in it)--said it may "melt" my hair. i also spoke with a few stylists who indicated it would not be a good idea to put ammonia or hydrogen peroxide on top of henna. i did tell them it was hennalucent and not pure henna, but they stuck to their guns. some websites i went to also (i really want the black out) said you would have to cut the henna treated hair out. just to clarify, i didnt mean that once you start hennalucent you cannot stop. i meant you cannot switch (according to the sources i listed above). hope this helps. not trying to scare you because it is a great conditioning product and excellent for thin hair because it really coats the shafts.

Thanks for clarifying that. I am considering the clear hennalucent. I don't dye my hair and I doubt I will in the future.

So how did you get the color you wanted or did you just wait until the hennalucent washed out?

Is it ok to do the aphogee treatment and this? Which one would you do first and how long would you wait between each treatment?

Sorry for all the questions. I just want to find out all that I can before I put this in my hair.

Diamond, I am still waiting for all of the black to come out. you can see about 2 inches of my brown new growth in the sunlight--looks like a mohawk! it is sloooooooowly fading. i am not going to do anything to damage my hair (Lord knows the color has not done that since it is natural), so I just have to be content with it. i really loved tracy's golden bronze hair. she makes dyed hair look healthy, but i am afraid i will damage my hair if i try anything, so i am leaving it alone. but i continue to use the clear hennalucent to coat the shafts and protect from split ends. i could not say about the aphogee treatment. i (and this may not be for all, but i have thin fragile hair, so i reinforce it right away) use elasta qp Breakage Control Serum (under dryer bonnet for 10-15 min) after my relaxer (as opposed to aphogee--both are essentially reconstructors) to undo some of the relaxer damage. i waited a week to put on the hennalucent just because. if you dont dye your hair or plan on it, this is a WONDERFUL product to use. good luck.

What aphogee treatment are you all using? Could someone give me the specific full title because I saw a lot of different ones in sally's and I didn't know which to buy.

I tried the bark brown Hennalucent once. I used hot water just like the instructions said and then I mixed and mixed and those little bits of stuff (tree bark?) never dissolved. The whole process was just too messy for me and I didn't really see much of a change in my hair color. I never used it again. I'm sticking with my Rejuvatone.

Better safe than sorry. You wouldn't want to do anything to damage your hair. But couldn't you use another semi-permanent? I think I might pick up some hennalucent the next time I go to Sally's since it is suppose to help prevent split ends.

I use the Aphogee treament for Damaged Hair.
I also use the shampoo, the balancing moisturer, and the intensive 2 minute Keratin Reconstructor when I do the treatment.
Then I deep condition.

The Aphogee Treatment for Damaged Hair is the strongest and should be used every 6 weeks.

I think the reconstructor can be used every week if necessary but I only use it when I am doing the treatment because I use Motions CPR in between.

There are tons of threads on Aphogee and you also can go to Aphogee.com.

Please help me to understand the differnce between the Aphogee treatment for damage hair and the 2 minute Keratin reconstructor.

Isn't a reconstructor any strong protein conditoner that strengthens hair. If that is the answer why would you use the Keratin reconstructor over it?

I am confused by all the different types of conditoners.

Thanks

The Aphogee Damaged Hair Treatment isn't a conditioner at all, really. I'm not sure of any other way to described it but as a treatment. It hardens like a rock over your hair while it's in and then you carefully rinse it out and use the balancing moisturizer in it. A recontructing conditioner can be used more frequently, and it used towards the same goal as a hardcore reconstructor, but you really only need the damaged hair treatment if your hair is truly damaged to a serious degree, or if you need that mega dose of protein. Using the 2 minute Keratin conditioner I think would only be needed for maintenance purposes, in my opinion.
As long as you balance all of this with tons of moisturizing conditioners, you should be able to avoid protein overload.

Also, I think I would greatly space apart the use of clear hennalucent and the damaged hair treatment to avoid to much stiffness/dryness.

I don't think it is necessary to use the reconstructor with the treatment. I did it the first time that I used aphogee because I thought it was necessary. But after research on the board I realize that it is not. I think some ladies use a reconstructor weekly or as needed. I don't know if they use it during the 6 weeks that they are waiting to do another damage treatment. Hopefully someone will answer that.

I think if you don't have severe damage you could just use the reconstructor.
