Hello everyone out there. I need some help. I love my hair to death but it is not acting right. I have no idea how to keep it from being dry. My ends are really the big problem. They are not too bad but I am getting mor breakage then I would like. I use Nexxus's Humectress conditioner and it makes my hair soft but the ends will just not coroperate with the rest of the hair.

Then when I put oil on it, to help it out, it all gets dull and mated and still does nothing for the ends. What should i do? What should I use? Someone PLEASE HELP!!!! I don't think I need a trim just something that works.

If I just try to put oil on dry hair, it just sits there and feels greasy. Then it starts to feel brittle. You might want to try to mist your hair with water or a leave-in before applying any oils for daily maintenance.

One trick I learned from someone on the board was to mix vegetable glycerin from the health food store with my oil. Vegetable glycerin is a natural humectant which means it draws moisture from the surrounding area.

A second trick I learned I can thank my sinusitis for. Since it's been acting up lately, I've been steaming my face at night before bed. I have a little $10 facial steamer that I use. Right before I place my head under the towel, I rub a little of the glycerin/oil combo on the ends of my hair. I get under the towel and give my hair and face a steam treatment for approx. 10 minutes. Once I'm done, I put my hair back into a bun, cover it with a satin scarf and go to bed. Really soft and moist ends in the morning.

Hey !
For me a rollerset at the salon once a week (or a roller set period). During the week I use Razac polishing gloss and sometimes Aubreys Aloe vera gel and my hair is very silky and shiny! I think a roller set is the key because your ends are smoothed and look healthier, that way all u have to do to maintain is lightly apply a little oil, serum, or creme (whatever u choose) on the ends and your hair will be extra smooth.

**It also sounds like you need to use a good moisturizing conditioner, Loreal Unfrizz Smoothing Treatment (LUST) and Keracare Humecto are 2 good choices. You can use the search option on the board for these 2 items and you will come up with LOTS of info on them especially LUST, its popular on the board and my FAVORITE moisturizing conditioner.

Hope this helps

By the way is your name Brittany, mine is Brittny

I ask because people are always shocked that I am black Brittny, but then again thats here in NY, when I lived in GA Brittny and Ashley was a very popular names among black girls.

I agree, i was searching for a conditioner that adds moisture and Keracare Humecto was absolutely great for my hair. Also u should try Elasta QP Recovery, it is also a good moisturizing leave-in

I do use a moisturizing condtioner, Nexxus which i listed above. But, I guess that is not going to work. I guess I have to go searching for a new product. I was thinking of trying the protectiv products. I know a lot of ladies recommend that also.

YES Britt I am a Brittany. I am surprised that the people were you are from rarely see a black Brittany. There are too many around here. They can have some on mines if they like.

Brittany, I see that you use humectress. Try using a little daily mixed with an oil. Rub this through your hair, but concentrate on your ends. I do this daily and then put my hair into a protective style - keep my hair and ends moist.

I agree with the rest of the ladies here. I spray bottled water(but I hear distilled is better) on my hair then I seal the ends with Hot Six Oil or anything from profective. They have really good products.

I use plain ol vaseline.....I am on the bun challenge and heres what i do every night and every morning. I lightly mist my bun with some water and seal the water with some vaseline. When i feel my bun throughout the day it still feels wet and "moist" I kinda stole Adrienne's baggie trick method but instead do it with a bun..Its cheap and very effective. I have a HUGE jar of petroleum jelly that will last me a yr...

EgyptianSand, and others who use Vaseline or grease to protect the ends: How often do you wash and conditioner wash? I'm asking this because Vaseline is really good at sealing in moisture, but at the point when you re-spray, the Vaseline could be keeping out the moisture. Hope that makes sense.

i think wrapping the hair is good. it keeps the ends smooth and straight and i usually put some ors carot oil on my ends or african pride leave in conditioner before i wrap. in the morning they are healthy and shiny.

Last night, I tried my own version of the baggie technique. I put Infusium 23 on my ponytail and then I sealed it with a mixture of Kemi Oyl and Hot Six Oil and covered it with plastic bag and scarf. This morning, my ponytail felt really soft and moisturized, but I don't think I should do this everyday b/c I don't want my ends to weigh down my hair. What should I do? Plus, where I can get some LUST?

I perfectly understand what u r saying. My bun feels "wet" throughout the whole week. So I guess some moisture did get it

Every Friday i "wash" my hair with a bit of conditioner and lots of baking soda..The baking soda is for clarifying all the vaseline, wax, and gel i use to create my bun..I mix it up and apply it in sections like u would do a relaxer. It really gets all that "gunk" out. I then proceed to either Hydrating curls(which i LOVE btw) or Lekair (if its deep conditioning week)

Thanks guys! I tried the glycerin with the baggy technique and my ends are wonderfully soft. You guys are a dream. I will never need to buy another book as long as I have the ladies at the LHCF.
