To tell you the truth Ive never heard of spring grip. Marcels have twirling handles (they glide and twilr in your hands and if youre not experienced with them count on some burns) so the grip is very flexible when in your hands. Spring grips Ive never heard of.

I have to agree, marcel grip does slide easily through your hands and I love that control! I am assuming spring grips have some type of lever with incorporated interior spring (like the curlers you find in your local pharmacy)...but don't get me to lying.

The Marcel irons are used by professional hair stylists. The marcel operates more manually, where you have to open and close the iron in your hand. However, it does take some practice which is why you'll mostly find spring grip curling irons sold to regular consumers. The spring grip only requires you to press down on the clamp to open it, it will close and remain closed until you press it again to release the hair. I use a spring grip.
