So what did you read that is making you switch from no lye to lye?? Are you going to do the touch up yourself??

I'm asking because I have always done a no lye and I want to try the Elucence relaxer and those..I think except for the Sensitive..are lye.. so I'm curious as to why you are switching.. what did you read about them?

Thanks!!

According to Shamboosie "If you use a NO-Lye relaxer or home relaxer kit and take the chemical out of the hair too soon, the hair will not be properly relaxed and the percentage of curn that is left in the hair will be locked in the hair. This product chemically locks the bonds of the hair, preventing anything else from entering the cortex layer, altering its texture....nothing else, not even another no lye relaxer will ever straighten this hair. Conditioners, and oil moisturizers will have little or no effect...."
Taken from Shamboosie book Beautiful Black Hair, Chapter 5 page 53.
Its a very good book and explains why I havent seen too much of a change in my hair since my last touchup. So I'm changing a few of the things I've been doing and gonna give his way a shot for a while. The worst that could happen is that nothing happens at all. Then I'll just be in the same boat as I am now.

I forgot, but no I am not doing my touchup myself, my hair buddy Spicee1t is doing it for me. She just dont know it yet.

Okay..thanks.. but what is "curn"?

So, if you go to a lye relaxer to a no lye one.. can you then go back to a lye one if you don't like it? I'm really tempted to try the lye one..and it doesn't seem like it will ruin my hair or anything..but when I was younger, my mother told me never to use a lye one because it would fry all of my hair off or something like that she said.. but it sounds like from what I've been reading..she was full of s*@t! lol right?

I think the "curn" is a typo... she meant "burn". I have the book. I even contacted Shamboosie in regards to a recommended conditioning relaxer. He's a Clairol consultant, so I should have known better when he said Clairol Textures and Tones. I used that and my hair laughed at it.

My hair was soooo underprocessed. I now have been using the Affirm regular for my past few relaxers. It is an excellent conditioning relaxer that works well for my hair. As far as lye vs. no lye goes... I've have always read from various sources that lye is harsher on the scalp, but easier on the hair. The no lye may go easy on the scalp, but is harsher on the hair.

In my opinion, there's nothing a lil' scalp basin' can't fix.

Thanks so much for the reply..I think I will try the lye one for sure.. I much rather it be harsher on the scalp than on my hair..to be honest.. I don't know if that's the wrong way to think..but my hair is pretty fine so I rather things be less harsh on my hair.. But, if I don't like the lye one..would it be okay to go back to the no lye one? Do you know??

Thanks!
