What is it in B complex that helps the hair grow?

The reason why I ask is because I just purchased the Naturemade B complex and realized that it had the same ingrediants as my multi. I use the Womens Ultramega. I am returning it because what is the point of taking it along with my multi and my hair skin and nails. I guess I am confused as to what is in it that is giving so much growth that a regular multi could not do or a hair vitamin. The B complex has only 30 mcg of Biotin. This is such a low amount I believe to help the hair. Well if anyone knows the answer please let me know. Thanks

I'm taking NatureMade Super B-Complex. It has definitely helped my hair grow and thicken up!
My multi-vitamin is the Kroger brand of One A Day Womens. I never compared the ingredients but of course when you take more than one vitamin, they will have clashing ingredients.

Allandra took the same Super B-Complex and went from chin lenth to waist length hair in about 2-3 years I think! ;)

Ellis, I think I misread your question when I saw the thread. I thought you asked what is the B-complex that makes your hair grow. Sorry...

I'm not sure what it is that's in the b-complex that makes hair grow if some of the ingredients are the same as a multi-vitamin. I think it's the extra b-vitamins that make your hair grow, not just Biotin. Biotin actually makes your hair strands grow in thicker which helps your hair stay stronger in order to grow longer and not break off.

I would look at the ingredients in your b-complex and see which ingredients on there are not listed in your multi-vitamin. Also check and compare the amount of mg's or mcg's of each ingredient too. HTH!

In regards to your question Ellis, I did some research and found out that 30-100 mcg of biotin is the recommended daily allowance for biotin. Biotin also helps hair grow because it is an essential cofactor in protein synthesis. Basically, most of the components of the B complex play some role in either protein or fatty acid/cholesterol synthesis, all of which we need in order to make hair. Most people who eat a varied diet that contains meats, cereals, dairy, and vegetables get enough B vitamins for normal biologic processes. However, a lot of people on this board have taken extra B vitamins and experienced hair growth so i guess it works! Hope that helps.

Choline, Inositol, Biotin = growth
Panthothenic Acid = Thickness & Shine

Choline I think is the most important. I noticed hair formula 37 & hairtopia have mega doses of choline up to 1000mg.

Choline is a B vitamin like nutrient that's useful in counter acting the effects of stress. Choline supplements prescribed to balding patients produced significant results to prove choline's worth in hair loss. Lecithin is a very good source of choline, at it also supplies inositol, a B complex vitamin with a particular affinity with choline, these two vitamins work together well. Foods rich in choline are egg yolks, yeast, liver and wheat germ.

Were you getting at least an inch a month with the B complex. I am getting an half an inch with the Gnc hair skin and nails so I wanted to use something that work better, but stay in the same price range. So if you are getting an inch I may go get them again and give it a try. Let me know. Thanks

Not sure if this is relevant but I do remember reading that there are many unnamed B- Vitamens that you get in the B Complex....and that all the B- Vitamins name or otherwise work together with one another...basically stating if you increase one you need to increase all. I will try to find the link.

I'm not sure how much growth I'm getting... I really never measure my hair. I can just see that I'm getting more growth than normal. When I used to measure my hair, I would get about 1/2-3/4" a month. I think it may be 1" per month with this stuff! :)

Ok I guess I am going to go purchase it again. Maybe there are some unamed vitamins in there. I will start it tommorrow and wait and see. Thanks

Has anyone noticed a change in their skin with this vitamin? I used to take GNC Super Biotin and it really broke me out. Does this Super-B stuff cause breakouts for any of you?

I used this last year with really good results but I was not trying to pay 30 bucks a month for these vitamins. If you have the money I think it is a good vitamin. I definately got an inch a month with these, it gave me the boost I need over the summer to give me a longer length. Too bad I had to cut all of that off later. but I would say go for it, if you can keep up with the payments.

They have a payment plan...if it wasn't there last year!!!! If you sign up for a year, they auto-ship it to you for $17/mo.

Wow Allandra,

I didn't know you grew all that hair that fast!! So do you attribute this all this growth to the vitamin or other things??

I think the vitamin did wonders, along with protective styles, spacing out relaxers and lots of moisture.

Sorry to pry but what is your hair texture. And what was the longest you ever had your hair before this.

Several of the ladies here have seen my hair. I use to take hair pictures back in the days of BHSGO (Black Hair Super Grow Out - an old Yahoo Club). I no longer post pictures of my hair. Sorry hun.

My hair texture is in my signature. Before reaching past waist length, the longest my hair was probably close to bsl. My hair didn't 'take off' until I got into hair care groups and stuff (because I found out how to better take care of my hair). HTH.

I was a member there and I was one of the fortunate few to have seen pics of her hair. But I believe I saw her hair before it had reached waist length. I can't remember why she doesn't show her hair anymore. But I remember her hair being nice.

Thanks candycane. Yes, my hair reached this length after BHSGO. Did you have the same name at BHSGO?
