What is it about Cantu shea butter?

I guess when I stopped relaxing my hair a few years back I entered the eternal search for the holy grail of moisture. Over the years I've spent quite a bit and still have 2 bathrooms full of products. In recent years though I've tended to natural butters and oils to form my own concoctions. I much prefer to know what's in my products and avoid chemicals when ever possible.

When it all boils down to it I prefer my shea butter, coconut oil, Olive oil , argon oil and aloe. Yet the only product I still have a very deep attachment to is the Cantu. Anyone know whats in it that makes it work?

I don't know if I should just buy a case of it or find out what's in there that my hair likes.

Any thoughts?

You know, when I fisrt went natural, I didnt' really care for Cantu Shea butter. There was something about the smell after a while that was throwing me off and so I just stopped using it. However, I have recently (like 3 days ago) repurchased some Cantu even though I was looking for the new natural line they're supposed to have. But I have to say I love the new formula. My hair is having a love affair with the moisture it gives and the scent is Very pleasant:lick:. I don't know what they changed, but I am going to stock up on some more.

I didn't realize they changed the line. Going to have to check for some today!

I don't know but nothing else moisturizes my hair like it. I tried other things and just come back to it. Add some Olive oil and my fro is butter.

My texlaxed hair doesn't like it much and I wasn't going to repurchase it until I used it on my new growth at ~4 months post. I had just hair dried my hair and had very little product on it because I was going to flat iron, but before I had the chance I was asked out at the last minute, so my hair was messy! I smoothed some of it on because I was low on my other products and it really softened and moistured my new growth. I was able to quickly fix up my hair and put it into a neat ponytail without much of a hassle. :)

My natural hair loves it, and my daughter's natural hair does well with it during the summer. I ended up repurchasing it. :yep:

I love to use it on my hair before I braid it up (for my weaves). I think it helps keeps my hair moisturized but I don't use it when I wear my own hair down. Which is hardly ever!

Would you happen to know the ingredient changes in the new formula, I recently bought a jar and didn't know there have been ing. changes

After getting home, I realized that I had the Cantu Shea better grow strong strengthening treatment. I like this one better than the other Leave in.

My relaxed hair loved it, but it does not a thing for my natural/texturized hair. My hair would be dry, and oily a few hours after using it. The leave-in was a big ol Womp in my house too...no ones hair likes it. The only butter that works for me is Donna Marie's Super Buttercream, and the one I make from scratch.

I loved it but read on another site were women used it for long periods of time & hair dried out & broke off.
Anyone here used this long term?

My hair hates hea butter. I have a jar of the leave in that I'm going to give to my cousin. Such a shme because I really wanted to love it. In fact, m hair hates a lot of things that people rave ov like coconut oil & Shea moisture.

I have stocked up on the old formula & I love it. I've NEVER experienced breakage with this stuff. I try other products, but keep coming back to it.

The old formula had shea butter as one of the first ingredients, and the new one has canola oil as one of the first ingredients. It still has shea butter, but less of it.

It did absolutely nothing for me, i just continued to use it hoping it would kick in but nothing lol. I ended up dumping when it was at half jar

I was disappointed when I repurchased because I noticed the ingredients changed...but actually after using it...I still like! I can't say more or less, yet. But Cantu is still a staple of mine, especially for braid and twist styles.

I hated it. My sister left her's at my house and that's the only reason I tried it. I threw it out because she didn't come get it. I prefer products with natural ingredients anyway.

I didn't really love it when I first got it.
It sat for a while till I read in a thread to mix it with oil and aloe.
My hair LOVES that mix.

Anytime this product is brought up I just feel like breaking out in hives. OMG, this mess made my hair dry, tangly, and like it was coated in plastic. It took nearly a month before my hair returned to normal. I am convinced it is Satan in a jar.

I always thought that the Cantu Shea Butter Leave In was a protein product. I have avoided it for my entire journey b/c I have my hair balanced. But a few ladies I've seen with crazy growth say they do nothing but cowash and use Cantu as a leave in...

My hair loved it only after i heated some up in the microwave for 5 to 7 seconds first nice warm and moisturizing.

Any longer than 10 secs and it started to bubble up and melt all over the place, it became a mess
