I'm very upset. Some products should come with a warning. Infusium 23 leave-in is one such product. The warning should go something like this:

"This product might be very, very good for your hair. On the other hand, it might break it off. Proceed at your own risk...."

I can't make heads or tails out of what exactly is in this stuff, but whatever it is, it made my hair hard and this morning when I washed my hair, it broke and shed, which literally made me cry. I've been working so hard to baby my hair and take really extra good care of it. So, when something like this happens, it feels like a setback. I'm just mad at myself more than anything. I used it to hopefully hold me over until my Aveda products arrive. I should have stuck with something safe...something I know works and is safe for my hair. I also didn't follow one of my rules, which is to be aware of ingredients before I put something in my hair!!!! Oh well, live and learn, I guess. Now I have more broken hairs on my head, but it could be much, much worse. I will just be extra careful and do a deep conditioning treatment later.

Is there protein in Infusium? or what?

I'm not sure what's in it, but the times I tried to use it, it would make my hair hard as a rock as well.

I don't know why they changed the formula. This was a very good product to use in the 80's LOL. Softened like nobody's business.

I emailed them and told them that the stuff was horrible and they sent me a free Infusium coupon. :perplexed

Infusium has lots of amino acids (*amino acids* just another name for protein). In fact, I think infusium as 23 different amino acids in there, hence the name, infusium 23 . . .

Which formula did you use? I tend to remember the original one not agreeing with my hair either. Someone gave me a bottle of the moisturizing one and it works much better for me.

I don't like Infusium. The first hispanic stylist I went to used to swear by it, many, many years ago. My hair just doens't respond well to most liquid leave-ins.

Yeah this use to be one of my staples. I stopped using this long ago.

I had no idea.

I was a devoted user until Jan of this year when I was told my hair felt like rope and the advice I got LHCF was that I was using too much protein. I cut out the infusium (leave in moisturizer) and my hair has been soft ever since.

Flash back to chemistry class! Why didn't I remember that amino acids create chains to make proteins? Well, thanks for the information. I really should have done a search here or created a thread to ask about Infusium before I used it. At least I only have one of those small spray bottles of the stuff. It will be going in the trash can. Though, it might work okay on my daughter's hair which is COMPLETELY opposite of mine. Afraid to try it on her though...

Cichelle,
I had the same experience about 6 weeks ago. Thank God for LHCF because they suggested I remove it from my regimen. Once I did, less breakage. I had been using it faithfully as a setting lotion as well when I was relaxed and now realized why my hair could never reach BSL.
Infusium is bad for growth IMO!!

Infusium is a BIG no-no to me. Some people's hair can't handle a lot of protein, mine is one of them.

Are you guys diluting this product? My hair is actually very fine and I use this to do my rollersets but I dilute it with half water and half infusiam. My hair comes out with a lot of body and shine. If you are diluting it and getting the same results then I don't know but if not then give it a try, you may change your mind about the product. HTH

same here....

I have the moisturizing formula and it works GREAT for me, after my conditioner wash when my hair is soaking wet I apply 2 squirts in my hand for each side of my hair left and right then I spray my surge all over and bun, my hair comes out VERY soft :) Is your hair already dry when you apply it?

My hairsalon uses it too but they mix it with something. I just cant figure out what. I will say alot of people's hair has grown with the use of that product.

Wow, I never thought about this product like that- breaking my hair off... Here I have been using this stuff for years without a thought. I also never thought to dilute it. I have occassional breakage especially on the ends. I thought it was because they were very dry. I don't use the product every time I shampoo, but I use it often. I must look for a connection between breakage and use of this product.
Cichelle, I too forgot my chem class info amino acids and protein duh. And Mysweetevie, I wish you would ask what your stylist is mixing it with...

I had been using Infusium 23 for the longest time, like over 5 years. But, I always used the moisturizing formula, or the newer one for colored/permed/relaxed hair. I swore by them. However, when I picked up the original formula a couple weeks ago, breakage city, hard hair. I felt like throwing it away. I have no use for it so I will give it to my mom. I use Motions Nourish Leave-In, Elasta QP Mango Butter, and S-Curl No-Drip for my leave-ins now. My hair is soft as butter, moisturized, and not breaking. :D

Yeah girlie, I finally had to stop using Infusium leave-in. I used to think I was doing something "good" for my hair since I always heard such nice things about Infusium. HA!! That stuff made my hair rough, and really kind of drying (I can't explain it!). I used to really HATE how it made my hair feel after I put it in. Almost like there was some alcohol in my hair! I even tried dilluting it with water and put it in a spray bottle. That didn't work either.

So, I finally tossed the Infusium out, and now I put in a little Kera Care leave-in conditioner. It's nice and creamy, and it makes my hair so SOFT! Has pretty good slip too. Now, I don't know if this leave-in brand is the BEST for the hair, but it has been good to my hair, and I suppose that's all that really matters.

For some reason, even after my deep conditioner treatments, I just feel like I need something "EXTRA" in my hair after I wash out the conditioner. So, I have to use a leave-in every time i wash my hair. Or else, my hair has no slip at all. It gets really tangled since my hair is pretty fine in texture.

That's my ish right there! It has mineral oil though, so I think a lot of people sleep on it, but for me, this stuff is the truth. I mix just a little with my Salerm 21 and  .

I have tried the moisturizing formula diluted on my hair and it still got crunchy and dry. I guess it just depends on the person's hair.

That's exactly how it was for me! I put it on my hair and it made it feel so...weird. Can't explain it either, but the alcohol comparison is probably the best one.

Btw, I did put it on when my hair was wet. It was the "moisturizing" formula , but I didn't dilute it. It came in a small spray bottle so I just sprayed it on. Never again.

I just want to thank everyone for sharing their stories with this product. I thought maybe it was just my crazy hair!
