Both. Like a brow pen can fill in brows and create some imaginary hair where someone may not have any.

It was mostly really popular to darken black men's hair and beard in the 90s to cover gray hair. It became something to give them the appearance of hairline and hair, before they reach the point of no return George Jefferson look, in the 2000s. The first person I remember to obviously use it to cover a balding head was Carlos Boozer. Lol. Then within a few days of that game he was balding again and everyone was talking about it.

My grandmothers and "aunties" have colored their hair with the black bigen dye for years.

We def pronounce it Beijing here lol

I never knew dudes were using it like that on their hairlines lol

That's interesting. In the 90s, all the women I knew used Jazzn or whatever it's called in that purple bottle. Lol

I grew up with Bigen being sold in the men's section of the BSS with all their pomades and such.
 
Lol where I'm from we call it Beijing too

I've used it to dye my hair, it's the blackest black dye ever

I thought that, too until someone told me, with great condemnation, that the word is French and is pronounced “Bee JHAN.” BUT, I later found out that the company that makes it is in Japan, and now I don’t know what to say or whose language I’m mispronouncing.

The streets I'm from have always pronounced it as Beijing...it is what is! That stuff will make your hair as black as shoe polish! I've never used it but my mom and grandmom did.
