What has your experience been like with Philippians 4:8?

Hello Ladies -

The bible reminds us in Philippians 4:8 -

8Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.

9Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.

One of my New Year's Resolutions was to put this scripture into practice and action. (think on things that are pure, lovely, and praiseworthy opposed to the negative)

Thus far this scripture has blessed me tremendously....

(1) In my train of thought - It has helped me to renew and transform my mind.

(2) In my behavior - I'm more optimistic about what's going on in my life. As a result I do experience more peace.

(3) In my response - It has helped me to respond to circumstances more rationally instead of irrationally.

I encourage others to practice Philippians 4:8-9.

And those who have experienced the blessings and benefits of Philippians 4:8-9, I hope you would share in this thread! :)

Timely thread and great post.

I am a praiser, no matter the circumstances.

Here's a little testament to my belief that practically applying God's Word to my everyday life WORKS:

Without going into details, this week, I got bad news that caused me to be sullen for a minute. I was more disappointed in someone than angry at them, so I was silent and thanked God anyway for his Mercy. The next day (yesterday), I told God, you know what, I'll praise you anyway because you're worthy to be praised, and I will not be defeated! Tears were in my eyes when I said that. I was listening to a worship song and sang along. It was at that moment, my spirit was lifted. [FAITH]
A few minutes later, the announcer on the radio came on and asked if anyone had a prayer request for that same situation! I mused at that... even minutes later, my mom called me. "Any prayer requests?" was the first thing she said. All I could do was laugh... she asked what was I laughing at. I told her what was on my heart, she said she'd pray about it because she was praying/fasting this day. Later in the afternoon, I called her back to thank her, and she'd explained to me that when she got up that morning, she was going to start her fast but was urged to call me to ask if I had a prayer request. She'd laughed at the thought, too, because she talks to me almost every day and hadn't planned to call me. But she went ahead and picked up the phone.... [OBEDIENCE]

I will not dispute that was God's work. I believe that the Holy Spirit transcends time/ place and I know my Father was looking out for me this week. He will use others (who are obedient to Him) to work out situations or to encourage us. Sometimes we don't obey God when we hear Him and that 'omission' will cost someone a blessing. This is why I got so excited yesterday in the Lord. I truly was excited and wouldn't let the devil steal my joy. I not only believe that whenever we keep a Positive attitude in any bad situation God will turn the bad in it for good - I practice it.

I have Joyce Meyer's "Good Morning, This is God" opened on the counter of my bathroom and read it as I get ready to start my day.

Yesterday's entry:

"Practice being positive in each situation that arises. Even if whatsoever is taking place at the moment is not so good, expect God to bring good out of it."

Romans 8:28
28We are assured and know that [[a]God being a partner in their labor] all things work together and are [fitting into a plan] for good to and for those who love God and are called according to [His] design and purpose.




Today's Entry:
No one can change without knowledge of the Word of God.

Hosea 4:6

I totally agree with keeping a positive attitude in any bad situation God will turn it around....

I've seen it happen for me as well, especially in 2010.

Also, a positive attitude leads me to have more FAITH in Him. The One that can do exceedingly abundantly above all that I could ever ask or think. :yep:

I have been very disappointed by someone recently as well, and I am working on forgiving this person. Then I read Corinthians 13.
I haven't focused much on Philippians 4:8, but when I was going through depression, I meditated on this scripture a lot. It's amazing how much the devil can throw at you in negativity in a day. I find that I am constantly having to filter my thoughts. In the last year or so, I also found that I had to believe God and what He tells me about myself and my future (both scripture and personal Word).

I also had to learn (the hard way) to praise God even when I was crying tears. It is only when I started doing this: praising God, when my circumstance tells me otherwise, worshiping God, even when I don't feel like it, speaking God's Word, even when the facts rebel against the truth - that's when I began to feel God's hand in my life. I have personally experienced that God's Word indeed is true and cannot return to him void (Isaiah 55:8-11). I also learned that God indeed does keep you.
I would go on, but I think I'm getting off-track here ;).
