I'm happy with the Jilbere. It's between $30-$40 at Sally's. Check ebay--they have good prices on the more expensive irons like Wigo, Chi, Unil, Hai, Babyliss etc.
ETA: Conair and Revlon make ceramic irons. I've seen them for under $20 at Walmart and Kmart. I've never tried them, though.
My 2.5 inch Jibere works great but I had to return the mini one because it didnt straighten my new growth. That's the good thing about Sally's, though....you can return...
I agree with Tracy. The Conair does a good job of straightening my new growth and I like it being thin for that very reason. I also used it once to straighten my daughter's full head of natural hair (I wanted to clip her ends) and it turned out like I wanted.
The iron I bought at Sally's had vents and I had to return it because it had only a low and a high and I needed something in between. Low is too low and high is too high. So consider that when you're shopping - whether you want a variable temperature.
I'm in the minority, but Gold-n-Hot has a flatiron with a dial, so you can set it from 1-10, 10 being VERY hot. I get straight hair with only using 1 or 1.5
I don't like their regular flatiron without the dial.
I have Remington's super smooth...it has steam conditioning which I like.....it's 20.00 I believe but I got mine for sooo much less in china town (just happen to find it).

So, this is what I recommend.
