Conditioner wash? I have been with LHCF for a while and never thought about doing conditioner washes...can someone tell me the benefits and how to do them? Is it just washing your hair with conditioner? What about all the dirt, grease, oil, sprays, etc...?!? DETAILS PUH LEASE

The conditioner wash is based on a method from Lorraine Massey who wrote a book called Curly Girl. African American hair having some type of curl or coil can benefit from this method. Her theory is that water pressure and the detergents present in conditioners are sufficient to clean the hair and unlike shampoo the conditioner helps to keep the moisture balance in dry/curly hair.

How to do it: it's simple just use the conditioner as you would your shampoo, there will be no lather.

As for grease and oil, if you feel like you have buildup use a clarifying shampoo.

Sometimes, I do what I call a root wash, which is where I will use a nozzle type applicator and only apply shampoo to my scalp *guess I should call it a scalp wash

Another way to do a conditioner wash, and the way I always did mine, was to use a combination of conditioner + lemon juice. The lemon juice has some of the cleansing properties like in shampoo, but don't use too much or else it WILL dry out your hair!

My scalp was always clean, clean, clean this way. I would mix 1 part of cheapo onditioner to 1/4 part of lemon juice, pour the mixture onto my scalp, scrub scrub, scrub, and then rinse. After I'd condition with a good conditioner.

But I recently discovered Creme on Nature Ultra Moisturizing shampoo + conditioner which does NOT have contain sodium lauryl sulfate /sodium laureth sulfate / ammonium lauryl sulfate ---> the harsh, drying ingredients in most shampoos. I'm LOVING CoN and it is now a staple!
