What does Bumping mean?

I see it every so often. What does it mean? Does it have something to do with no one answering your thread? Duplicating a thread?

Bumping in moving the thread to the front of the forum.

Really So say if I am not getting any responses. Can I use it for that as well? I have seen the phrase "Bumping for more responses".

Do you just type it in your thread or you have to start another thread and type Bump?
