I have been pondering this idea and i want to see if anybody has gone through it at all? I'm going to be graduating soon and entering corporate America soon. I have 1 more semester and a whole mess of internships lined up over the next year roughly. I've been thinking should I make this braided style my last braided style? I usually wear them for growth and to give my hair and I a break from each other, but soon I will have to look more professional I know for sure my comfy jean, sneaker, and t-shirt combo is gone i wonder if all my braids and weaves are too for the simple fact that it's not too corporate and in the places that I will be interning like the senate, and the white house and the securities and exchange commission and when i go to grad school I think people will be more apt to prejudge me if i wear these styles. So i was thinking after this weave comes out in june (or maybe before i start my internship) i will just have to start wearing my hair consistently. Has anyone experienced this.....having to change their normal hair style (braids and weaves) to be a part of corporate America....not to mention the damage i received from these last cornrows being too tight!!! (check my fotki for a pic)

I've been a corporate America for 8 yrs now, no braids for me. Some weaves from time to time, but mostly buns as a protective style. Actually I like wearing buns, they look so professionnal ... but honnestly, I've never been told to not wear braids by anyone, it's a personal choice. So go ahead and do what you feel is good for you.

Take care

you can wear braids and look very polished/professional, i think it depends on the style. know what i mean? there is a lady who works with my mother who STAYS in braids because she has no hair :look: but i will say they always look nice. they are usually long enough to put in a bun or some kind of updo. :yep:

same with weaves... yeah if you get some rainbow-colored yaki down to your butt people are prolly gonna look at you funny. :lachen: but if you pick colors and styles that match and are "conservative" i think you will be fine. best of luck in your future endeavors, however you decide to wear your hair.

umm yeah no rainbow pinks and reds for me black's fine........lol..........well thank you ladies...i think i need to start wearing my hair anyway..it's growing nicely and my SO just doesn't understand why i just don't style my own hair.. so i guess i will use my hair and when i get tired the most professional looking weave i can get..lol
