What do you get done at a Dominican salon?

Ok I am so excited that I just got the number to a Dominican salon in Chicago by one of the girls on this board. However, I do not know what to ask for when I get there. A blow out or a rollerset? I want really bouncy straight hair when they are done???? HELP

I get roller sets and a blow out (roots only). Works for me.

When I leave the Dominican salon, my hair is bouncy and straight. Please let us know when you go. We wanna hear all about your visit.

I have 4a natural hair, and I usually get it blown out and flat ironed. It always comes out shiny, straight, and bouncy. From what I understand, they can also rollerset 4a hair, so I may try that next time around.

When I use to go, I'd ask for a wash & set. Once the rollers are removed, they'd ask if I wanted it blown out and I'd say just the roots and wrapped in the doobie when done. Once I got ready to take it down it was straight, shiny and very bouncy.

I get my hair washed & set weekly. I also get my relaxer touch-ups, color treatments, and hot-oil treatments done at the salon. I get my roots blown and my hair wrapped in a doobie afterwards. My hair always feels smooth and silky when I remove the pins!

Basically everything. Relaxers, Rollerset, Highlights, Trims, and occasionally full blow outs. I recommend that you get a deep conditioner when you go. You'll get hooked. I'm actually due to get my hair done tonight by a new stylist (Dominican). She uses Affirm and I really want to try the relaxer from all the raves I've heard here and I'm due for a touch-up. My girlfriend recommended her with praise and said she's very particular and only uses top of the line relaxers and products. I'm nervous cause I'm funny when it comes to relaxers, but I figure I'll try someone new. Tired of the rush jobs that I get at the other salons.

the last place i went was on Burnside & Jerome Avenue. Right nextdoor to the laundromat. If you take the #4 train, get off at Jerome and walk towards KFC. Keep walking past it, past McDonalds, past Dominoes (yes, this is all on the same block - its like a fatty foods haven over there)... you should see it. I haven't been there in a few months but the one that use to take care of my hair is short and stubby with crazy colored hair, and she sits in the middle, not next to Marie (black lady) but next to the lady that's next to Marie. LOL. It's a pretty small salon but it's $10 w&s Mon - Fri and they definately hook some head up.

CaramelHonee you are hilarious with your descriptions! But do you remember the name of the salon or the name of your former stylist? My b/f lives in that area and I like to have different salons on hand if need be..

(also...I saw your pictures and your hair looks really nice...funny thing is I recognize you from the #6 train back in the day and always thought your hair was nice back then

I still ride the #6 from time 2 time...LOL. Are you one of the gucci girls? That's the name i gave this clique that I use to see on the train in the morning. They were always well dressed and had the latest handbags of the season...LOL. I'll ask my girlfriend about the girl's name... hold on... i have 2 call her
phone.gif
....it's ringing... of course her machine came on. I hate this girl!!! Give me a sec...

Edited to Read:
She said she doesn't know (y am i still her friend!!!). But if you go there, you'll see her. There are 4 booths (or 5

) on your right hand side and she is at booth #2 (or 3). Okay that was no help
fishslap.gif
. She's the only short, stubby one and she smiles ALOT

... like shannon from ANTM.

Caramel Honeee...I get on at Pelham Bay but I believe I know who you are referring to...one or two is a friend of mine...that's funny!

I get on around 8ish or 8:20 ish..

Such a small world.... and one of the gucci girls was supposed to have her friend call me so she could cornroll my hair. Her friend never called and i was sooo mad. I hated ALL the gucci girls for a while after that... LOL.

I wish i could go to a place for a one stop and shop type of deal. but i have to go to this place for this and that place for that. which is frustrating at times. i used to go to mirror image for roller sets and touchups but i am boycotting them (repress rage)

and am looking for other places. the place i go to now i get roller sets and deep condition. if only i could find a marcia that wasnt so expensive i would be in hair heaven.

Someone, please answer this question

.

also, what's a BLOW OUT
confused.gif
is it the same as blow drying

When I go to a Dominican salon and get a roller set, they also blow out the roots (meaning they take a round brush and a blow dryer to straighten my new growth). IT makes my hair look as though I've had a relaxer touch up.

I've been wondering the same thing...

Pumpkin summarized Dominican salons on another thread as follows:

The deal with Dominican salons is that they are pretty consistent with their service. They all do the same basic thing, wash set and deep condition but at a very cheap price. I pay $15 for services rendered on weekdays and $20 for weekends. Also the service is really quick where you can walk in without an appointment and have someone servicing you within 5-10 minutes. Some salons use Dominican conditioners which favor my hair, others use mainstream products like Nexxus or Motions. Also, Dominicans do not blob the hair down with a million different styling aids which leaves the hair feeling smooth and silky. SO the bottom line with these salons is:

1) They are cheap.
2) You don't need an appointment.
3) You don't have to wait hours for a stylist to get to you.
4) You don't have to worry about your stylist running out to get lunch while she's working on you.
5) The service is quick and is great for the days you need to get up and run but still look good.
6) They are all over the place (at least here in NY) and are pretty consistent with their approach.
7) THEY ARE CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP!

There may be other salons that do similar things, but Dominicans are known for this.

Hope this helps

Hi I get my touch ups and roller set there. I use to get them to blow dry my roots but it made my hair way to soft...I have 4b hair and I like it to be a bit thick with body...so now I just get a roller set and wrap it myself before i got to sleep and when I wake up my hair is very bouncy and soft. You will get hooked!!!
