Oooh, I want to know too! Also, I bought some aloe vera powder. Any suggestions are welcome. :yep:

Sense I'm wearing protective styles ...(I could never do this if I was wearing my wrap)....I massage it directly in my scalp every night...I also added it in my shampoo(read that on-line)....

I use it to smooth my edges
As a moisturizer on wet hair
In DC treatments
In my cocoshealoe
For bug bites & other itchies
For sunburn

Another indispensible, multipurpose product in my arsenal.:yep:

what does it do to your scalp?

Only for you I'm going to look up this stuff again...I should have bookmarked it

Aloe Vera
Indians, Native Americans and Caribbeans have used Aloe Vera to promote healthy hair and prevent hair loss since ages. Aloe Vera balances the pH of the scalp and heals from within. It is also helpful in cleansing the pores. A general remedy of Aloe Vera gel with coconut milk and small amount of wheat germ oil used as a shampoo has shown great benefits. Aloe Vera surely helps you stop hair loss.

Aloe-Vera
Aloe vera is a wonderful product. Aside from it's well known moisturizing effects, it contains many of the products that seem to be effective in fighting hair loss. Like biotin, b-vitamins, zinc and even inositil. It also has anti-bacterial properties that help keep the scalp healthy, controling the bodies immune response which we know can have adverse effects on hair growth. In addition the moisturizing qualities when applied to the scalp increase the blood circulation to the hair follicle.

I use it to smooth back my puff sometimes. It is good to do a twistout on dry or damp hair. It adds moisture to puffs. You can use it in small amounts to do twists. It is good on your skin, etc.

Are you ladies using a brand of Aloe vera specifically for hair? I went to Walmart and they only had it in juice form :nono:, and I went to wWlgreens and they had it as a gel for rubbing on the body not the scalp. Are ya'll using aloe vera body gel??

Just 100% Aloe Vera Gel ........Its not made for hair....Most people use it on skin, scar, sun burns.....Just make sure it 100% Aloe Vera

I  my aloe vera!

I got the pure aloe vera gel (it's really more of a juice consistency) that is designed to be a drink. :beer2: It's pesticide-free, and I got it from Puritan's Pride. Supposedly it tastes :barf: tho, so I just use it topically.

I massage it into my scalp daily, and I use it on my C&G braids as a moisturizer. My new growth is unbelievably soft and silky... but without the greasiness that other products leave behind. Once it dries, you'd never know it was there, except for the soft condition of the hair. When I run my hands around my scalp, I don't draw back a hand covered in grease or goo.

I have found a lifelong staple in aloe vera. :dance7:

Add to conditioner for co-washes, add to deep conditioning concoctions, add to Duo Tex for protein boost, mix with leave-in, mix with moisturizing spritzes, apply to scalp nightly with applicator bottle.

ETA: Drink an ounce a day of the juice or gel mixed with goji juice. I use food grade only for everything.

I never thought about adding it to conditioner. How much do you add to your conditioner? :perplexed Deep conditioner that is.

A splash of the drink or a glob of the gel -- very precise and scientific (smile)...

at the Dominican Salon I go to they use fresh aloe vera for DC treatments. She cuts down the middle and with the back of a plastic knife, pushes on the plant (like you do when trying to get the last bit of toothpaste out) and let the juices run into a pan. The puts it in a jar and into the fridge. I don;t think she uses anything to preserve it, probably because it gets used the same day.

That's what I want to know....because at Target the Aloe Vera Gel was in the first aid section and it had alcohol in it, along with about 9 other ingredients. What brands are 100% Aloe Vera Gel. I was going to order from Puritan Pride but the aloe gel they had was 99.3% aloe. I want 100%.

I'm definitely gonna try some of these suggestions. I even gots me an aloe plant, so JLove thanks for letting us know how it's done! But just looking at it, me thinks I need to get a much bigger one, and more than one of those too LOL

I use it when I'm cornrowing, smoothing my edges, twists, nearly anything. I get mine from CVS - really inexpensive. I'm with some of the others, any brand of 100% aloe vera gel should be fine. I also mix it with hair gel or a leave in conditioner. Basically, it is so versatile you can do anything with it. Kinda like coconut oil.

The one I use is called Fruit of the Earth Aloe Vera 100% gel and I got it from Walmart in the health and beauty section for like $3.00. HTH

Thanks.

So you use it as a moisturizer? That's what I plan on doing. I've already adopted co-washes, but can't get into all of the products and brands (nexxus, pantene, MTG, etc) that people rave about on here b/c there are just too many to choose from, but I've heard aloe vera is an all purpose treatment and can be used externally or internally to heal the body and since its a natural product, I'd like to try it.

I guess you can say that I use it as a moisturizer. But it is also like a substitute. I can mix it in with other products, I can use it in place of other products. I think for me and possibly for other users, it is a must have product to have on hand even if you don't use it for every style or every time you cleanse your hair/scalp.

As for all the products/brands I will say what nearly everyone else will say.... find what works for you. That is my general suggestion. My specific suggestion is to research and read and go to as many hair forums as possible and see what the majority of others who have your hair type use and start with those products. Don't become a PJ (product junkie) like me and some others did in our "hair journeys". Like I've seen so many say: KISS (keep it simple sista).

My basics: AV gel, 100% coconut oil ($1 from my BSS), I prefer Elucence products (but I can do Suave too). I have a simple routine (I'll add to my Fotki soon).

I'm not gonna hijak any further. I can PM you or something.
