I tried the search engine, but we all know how that story ends.....

Anywho, I would like to know what you ladies do to prepare your hair for a touch-up and what do you do post?

I've read that some of you base your scalp (of course) but are you doing protein treatments a few days in advance or a week in advance?

Afterwards are you doing protein trtments and then deep conditioning right after?

Inquiring minds wanna know:scratchch .

Thank you chicas!!!!

***BUMPING***

I know someone out there preps their hair before you relax. Where are you?:lol:

I do a mild protien treatment about two weeks before my relaxer. I also start making sure my scalp is well oiled starting about 4-5 days before. I usually use coconut oil or some other liquid oil and lightly rub it in.

After my relaxer I always use a balanced conditioner for my first wash afterwards. I usually wait a week to wash it. I have been using ors packets for the past year for my first wash. My wash about 3 weeks post relaxer, I bring out a stronger protien treatment. I usually use duo tex but I think I am going to try aphogee this time around. I am in love with aubrey organics stuff right now so might use their protien conditioner which is supposed to be really moisturizing for my first wash. I am still trying to figure out where my henna treatment needs to fit in this mix. I might do my henna treatment my 2nd week post followed with a deep moisturizing conditoner.

Thank you gymfreak for the informative response.

What are you other ladies doing out there?

  • About two weeks before I do a hard protein like aphogee.
  • I do a mild protein about 6 or so days before the protein... almost the mildest protein you have in your stash.
  • The day before I base my scalp really well.
  • Immediately before my relaxer I base my scalp again. :lachen: I try and make sure it's based really well.
  • After I rinse my relaxer out and before I neutralize I use DuoTex (the protein SuperGirl raved about) for about 3 minutes
Most of my protein comes in right around touchup time or immediately afterwards.
  • I then neutralize, do a regualar shampoo, and tea tree stimulating conditioner for about 10 minutes.
  • I then do a moisturizing DC for a minimum of 45 minutes - shorter amount of time if I use heat.

I do a mild protein treatment a week before I relax my hair and I do one a week later:p

I oil my hair b4 relaxing- usually w. olive oil;

I add oil to the relaxer (olive & coconut);

After applying relaxer & rinsing (b4 I neutralize) I add some sort of conditioner + oil for about 30 min;

Then neutralize, lite condit., smoothing cream + broccoli seed oil & air dry.

Thank you ladies for your responses:) .

I usually deep conditon my hair the day before for 1 hour. Then the next day I section my hair into 8 sections. I then start on the back front part of my hair and separate a section. I apply a mixture of queen helene deep conditioner and vasaline to my previously relaxed section first then I put the relaxer on my new growth. Then I work my way to the front back sections, the bottom sections and the very front of my hair I apply the relaxer last. I smooth my hair a little and live it on for 5 minutes. Then I wash the relaxer out of my hair. I then apply the deep conditioner to my whole head and leave it on for 15 minutes with no heat. I then wash that out of my hair and do a conditioner wash first and the use the neutralizing shampoo I will rotate the conditioner and shampoo about 6 or 7 times wash it out. Oh i will also let the shampoo sit on the hair for about 1 minute so I can get all of the relaxer out. Once Im done I apply my products on my hair take some pics and Im done. Then I go straight back to the baggie method. Thats it. I relax 2 times a year.

I go to a salon, so before I go in to get a touch up I moisturize like crazy the day or two before with S-curl ( root to tip).

Before I relax, I apply a generous amount of Vaseline to the length of my hair so as to not damage my hair if I should happen to overlap by mistake

I base my scalp, making sure not to scratch my scalp with the comb when I part my hair, I put a conditoner on my hair focusing on the ends (just a little) then I seal with an oil or vaseline..this helps to protect from accidental overlapping...after relaxer & washing I protein condition followed by a moisturizing conditioner.
