It's a miracle that I had any hair on my head at all...

I always sleep with a satin scarf.

I always deep conditioned every wash.

And i always stretched my relaxers until 8-10 weeks (now 12 weeks)

I used a Wanakee product to moisturize my ends (Constant Care for Ends)
I used Nexxus products except for Headress (didn't know about leave-ins yet)
I used a wide toothed comb only
Relaxed every 8 or 9 weeks (now 13 weeks)
I ate a healthy diet, took good vitamin supplements and exercised daily
I wore a nylon sleeping bonnet to bed
I kept my life stress-free
Wore a simple, low maintenance style
Drank lots of water daily

-Used a satin scarf to cover my hair at night
-Avoided products with alcohol
-Had a healthy diet
-Took a multi-vitamin
-Wore my hair in a bun almost everyday
-Combed hair gently and in sections to avoid breakage

I'm sorry to ruin your post but I didn't do any of the things these ladies mentioned here, not even tie up my hair, let alone wash it like I should have. But then again, that's why I'm here. I've been taking very good care of my hair for the past 3 months.

-wash weekly
-tie hair down at night
-moisturize daily
-stuck to a few products(Im going back to this rountine now)

We've all made posts of all the awful things we've done to our hair. I think we should post the healthy/correct procedures we've done in the past. You'd be surprised at the knowledge some of us knew.

I'll start first:

1. Always tied my head with a satin scarf

2. Stopped using "doo-doo brown (pre-con) gel" a looooong time ago

3. Washed my hair once a week

4. Spaced my relaxers every 8 weeks (currently 12 weeks)

5. Used a leave-in detangler

6. Wore a protective style (ponytail) 3 weeks before and up to a touch-up.

All that except I would wait 6 wks. to relax and I wore my hair out a lot.

May I add going to the salon 1-2 week with frequent trims, exercising, drinking water, staying away from products containing alcohol and sleeping on a satin pillow and using minimal direct heat.

1. I used Keracare products
2. waited about 6-8 weeks for a touch-up
3. Deep conditioned once a week.
4. Kept my ends decently trimmed and sometimes did a rollerset.
5. I was trying to wean myself off of a hair dryer.
6. Didn't use a flat iron/curling iron more than once a week.

Wow...a lot i guess:
1. I NEVER used heat...not until i went natural
2. I NEVER used the 'doo-doo' or any other type gel for that matter...not until i went natural
3. I guess this is kind of tied in with no heat: I wore rollersets nearly all the time (yes, i set my hair nearly every night. yes, i varied the parts.)
4. Stretched relaxers (due to no money or no one to do them for me...usually waited 2-4 months)
5. I got regular enough trims (whenever my ends were looking straggly/ratty, i'd take care of them)
6. i moisturised...out of necessity though- i could hardly comb through it when it was all dried up so i'd put moisturizer on it to help

Hmmm, not too bad...my relaxed hair wasn't suffering...but then again, i knew that, i only went natural to see what my real texture was like, not cuz of damage.
Ironically, i wreaked the most havoc on my hair when i decided to go natural- in fact that's how i found the hair boards- I was looking for help on how to care for/style it!

For me I did the following:

Relaxed every 8-10wks (now extend to 20wks)
Deep conditioned every 2 weeks
Used heat once every 2 weeks (LOL but I only used to have my hair washed every two weeks anyway)
Wore satin scarf at night
Never used gel
Never relied on curling tongs / irons to style my hair - always used rollers more or less everyday

I washed every/wk
I used heat once or twice/wk
I used a satin pillowcase
Minimal products in the hair
Relaxers 10-12 wks
