What can I do to make a combed out roller set look better?

I know roller setting is pretty much one of the healthiest ways to
achieve growth but I hate the way my hair looks. No matter how crisp and clean the roller set once I comb it out or run my fingers through it something at right.

Too much volume at the roots giving me old lady bouffant no matter how hard I brush it and jacked up, non directional ends which are neither curly or straight, just scraggly, frizzy and on crack.

My hair comes out far better in form and texture when I curl with a flat iron.

Is there anything I can do to make a roller set even remotely stylish. I hate when people wear what I can tell is a roller set they raked a comb through.
