Yeah, that's kind of what I do. Just some sort of mixture with protein conditioner + moisturising conditioner (or whatever pre-treatment comes with the relaxer kit). Usually some vaseline too - pretty good shield. I might even add a couple of drops of vinegar to the mix so that any run off is instantly neutralised.
